Our second visit to the Chequers at Berrick Salome in a couple of months and we weren't disappointed. Last time it was a quiet evening drink, child-free (great wine and a lovely cheese board).
This time kids in tow. Firstly, the staff, in particular the new(ish) owners, really couldn't do enough for our tribe with children of mixed ages and grandparent - extra straws, colouring, amazing fresh bread and good wine kept us all happy'til our food came which was a little slow but incredibly fresh and well worth the wait. We sat in the lovely old Granary with another family but would've been more than happy in the bright and spacious 'main bit'. Roast beef and chicken with lots of hot veg and burger and wedges were served and although the burger was a little herbie (nothing to do with the white Beetle) the meat and perfectly roasted chicken were just what we needed on a rainy, cold April day! (We commented on the burger to the staff and it was quickly apologised for and taken into account as a reduction on the bill, with no fuss).
The large garden again proved priceless afterwards as thankfully the sun came out, and provided the kids with things to climb, play in and a football pitch before the rain came, once again!
A very reasonable, good quality and family-friendly pub, not too many of them around! We'll be back soon!
