Since I cut peanuts out of my diet, I've become a bit of an 'alternative' nut butter fanatic. I've fallen in love with Almond and Hazelnut butter as I adore their depth of flavour and creamy texture. They can be pretty expensive, so I save them for an occasional treat. I've always bought the Meridian brand because I think they are the best quality; and when I saw the Meridian Cashew butter recently, I just had to give it a try. Unfortunately, it just doesn't compete with almond or hazelnut butter in terms of flavour. Its pretty bland, with just a slight 'milky' cashew taste. For £2.79 for a small jar, I expect a gourmet tasting product - but it just doesn't meet these standards unfortunately. On the other hand, the texture is silky smooth and it works very well in baking. Sometimes when you use almond butter, the flavour can be a little strong - so cashew butter is a very good option for this. I've also found that I can improve the flavour by adding a few 'extras' like a touch of raw cacao powder and a dash of maple syrup. To conclude, its certainly not the worst product I have ever tasted, but if you're after an alternative to peanut butter, I'd definitely recommend almond or hazelnut ahead of this.
