No, Stubhub don't do "nothing". They provide a platform for you to sell your tickets and it costs them a fortune to do so. If you think your tickets could reach a wider audience of potential buyers than one of these secondary sites if you sold them without their help I suggest that's the path you should take in future.

Are you sure it's worse than ebay? With Stubhub there is no risk of non-payment as you are paid by them and not the buyer. You don't need to pay or worry about postage - UPS will collect your tickets. There are no listing fees to pay and you are paid through Paypal with no fees deducted.
Buyers looking for tickets on ebay will be re-directed to the Stubhub site, so I can't really see any disadvantages for you.

Yes I am sure. First because event was a week away I was prevented from having a bidding process which resulted in a failed sale as opposed to a high level of interest on my aborted eBay listing where a firm bid was made. So regardless of fees ebay would have given me a return on my tickets whereas stubhub gave me nothing. Also in over 100 sales on eBay I have never had a bad debt and anyway i don't despatch the goods until I have PayPal receipt. Fees on stubhub for a £25 ticket were about £4 for seller and about same for buyer, hardly a good deal.
So I still think that eBay have made a serious backward step in forcing their customers to go to stub hub for ticket sales
Andiamo's Comment

£4 to reach a world-wide market - I don't think that's unreasonable and £4 to buy the ticket is about as much as Ticketmaster charges. Wouldn't your listing fee, final value fee and paypal charges come to about the same? Ebay owns Stubhub (or vice-versa, I'm not sure) and has channeled all tickets sales there because Stubhub didn't have the immediate impact on the UK market that they thought they would. You know, you can always list your tickets on ebay.com (instead of ebay.co.uk). They still accept ticket sales.

Do you work for Stubhub or something like that? You seem a very determined advocate for them. Let me repeat the facts of my experience again, I listed on ebay and within a few hours got an inital bid of £10 and 11+ watchers. On Stubhub a fixed price listing (auction not allowed) at £25 got nothing. I do not need an international audience and who outside the UK is likely to buy tickets for a cricket match at the Oval next week at this late stage anyway. I think your comment about why ebay has gone over to Stubhub is very telling - they want it to get more market share and the decline in service to its ebay Uk customers is obviously a price they deem worth paying.
As a final effort to give them one more chance I have used a "last-minute" listing for the ticket. Of course on ebay I would just list them but with Stubhub I now have to post them the tickets before they can be listed by them ,losing the whole weekend for potential sales. And agin, no auction process, just a fixed price.
Sorry but you will never convince me that ebay Uk's decision is anything other than self-interest and that customers needs have been sacrificed to what they see as a greater profit source.
Andiamo's Comment

No, I don't work for them, but I have used them to sell unwanted concert tickets and was pretty impressed by their prompt payment system. In my case the fees worked out less than ebay.
Ofcourse you are correct, ebay have moved ticket sales over to Stubhub in a bid to get a larger share of the market. Can you blame them? Surely every company wants to see as large a profit as possible? That's why they are in business.
Paulcricketfan's Comment

True enough but sometimes if you reduce customer service, the policy can backfire. That is what has happened here due to stubhub's policy of not allowing auction processes near to event date. My aborted ebay listing produced a certain sale straightaway with the probability of higher bids to follow from the many watchers whereas a discounted fixed price on stubhub failed to sell. Still I have only had to resell tickets twice in 8 years so I doubt stubhub/ebay could care less.
Who knows maybe the deeper discounted fixed price in the last minute process might bear fruit.

I suppose it depends on personal circumstances, but for me the customer service on Stubhub knocks the service on ebay into a cocked hat. I'm sure that if you had sold your tickets immediately you would have considered Stubhub the bee's knees! On reflection, perhaps they are better for selling concert tickets rather than tickets for cricket matches. Anyway - good luck and I hope they do get sold asap.

I agree with the op, eBay is much better for selling tickets on than stubhub.
My main gripe with stubhub is their insistence on using UPS. I can sell tickets on eBay for a Friday concert as late as the day before because all I have to do is get down the post office and use Next Day Special Delivery. Not so with UPS and Stubhub - I would have to arrange for them to pickup the tickets the day after I sold them and they would then in turn delivery them to the buyer the day after that. So the latest sale date is now Tuesday instead of Thursday. I would also have to stay in all day until the UPS courier came. Not fun.
Another problem is that the seller can no longer stand out against the less reliable sellers by having excellent feedback. Feedback means nothing on stubhub because the buyer has no idea who they are buying from, so a seller who had 100% feedback on 1000s of ticket sales on eBay is just thrown amongst the hoi palloi of sellers on stubhub with nothing to differentiate them. And just because stubhub has the Fan Protect guarantee don't for a minute think it protects you from shoddy sellers - if you are let down the Fan Protect system will try get you replacement tickets but if they don't you'll just get a refund and a missed concert. Deal with a proper person on eBay with top feedback and you are much more likely to get the tickets you bought.
The only way a seller can stand out on subhub is to offer the lowest price.
And how do you find completed sales on stubhub? Having access to that info on eBay helps you set a price. Maybe that's in there somewhere, I don't know, I don't use it.
I suspect eBay will now be losing a significant amount of revenue from this decision to stop ticket sales and will at some point admit their mistake and resurrect it.
In the meantime I guess one could always list tickets under a different category, maybe band merchandise, but run the risk of being spotted before the auction ends. The advice to use ebay.com isn't really a solution.
Paulcricketfan's Comment

Hi - thanks for the support. It seems like ebay are monitoring ticket sales listed under other categories very closely - I have only ever sold a ticket once before on ebay in 7 years, yet they spotted my cricket tickets within 24 hours. Like you I hope they redirect their energies to giving better service to long standing users with 100% records and reverse this poor decision. As for my last minute listing - I posted them the ticket via the midday post on saturday - as of Tuesday night it is still not an active listing on the Stubhub site. Hard to believe that this service really exists in any meaningful form.
