I took a bike I had just bought 2nd hand there for a service and had already had it checked out by an expert I know attached to my cycling club. He said it was perfectly alright in every way. I only took it to Evans as I had bought a new bike from them (the service here was fine btw) and effectively used them as an overnight storage for this bike under the guise of "could you check it out please". Amongst the things they listed as "needing replacement" were:- chain, cassette, bottom bracket, brakes, wheels, tyres. (Oh and they were unable to loosen the overtightened seat). Needless to say I told them to get lost and it is still giving me many miles of happy cycling despite it's practically "written off" state. In summary, service is fine if you're buying something from Evans, just don't take your bike there for a service unless you want to unnecessarily part with (a lot) of your hard earned cash
