Having tried to call the Evans cycle shop in Crouch End store 3 times this morning, with no answer, I went along to the store with the intention of test riding and ordering a bike.
I was in store for 10 minutes looking around and none of the staff acknowledged me. So, I went over to the till where the manager and another member of staff were serving a customer, and a third member of staff was staring into space. The manager nudged staring into space guy to help me, though instead of doing this he asked me to wait and disappeared out the back. It later became apparent it was the end of his shift therefore he hadn't wanted to start serving another customer. Another few minutes later someone else came out from the back of the store and took me over to view the bikes.
I wanted to test ride one brand in particular, so the guy who was helping told me he thought they had it in stock and he would check out the back. 10 minutes later I noticed that he had come out of the store room, but instead of coming over to me ! he was with a colleague behind the till. I assumed he was stock checking on the computer for my bike, so went over to him and asked him if they had the bike. He said no and that he was helping his colleague and that I needed to wait two minutes. This was after I'd been in the store approaching 2o minutes.
So he'd happily just left me sitting there knowing the bike I wanted wasn't available, however he didn't have the courtesy to come over and let me know. He was in no way apologetic about the bike not being in stock, didn't even look up from the computer screen when I approached him, he just carried on typing whilst I stood there like a lemon.
So rather than continuing to wait, or complaining like I should have done after 15mins I gave up and left.
Throughout the whole experience I felt like my custom was an annoyance for everyone involved, no smiles or a friendly hello. Just rude, unhelpful staff with no customer service skills whatsoever.
I entered the store with the intention to order a bike. However I will not spend another penny with Evans now. People I urge youto support your local independant bike shop rather than the Evans, the tesco of the bike world.
