Having read good things about the Lapierre Zesty 314 I visited Evans Cycles in Birmingham so I could ride it around the block before committing. They didn't have one in-store so arranged for one to be brought over from their central warehouse. They said I would need to leave a £50 deposit but when I got to the store they needed the whole £2300. After riding it around the block, one of the managers gave me the hard sell telling me that it would sell out very quickly and if I didn't buy it there and then I would probably miss my chance. Not happy to make an impulsive decision I left it for a couple of days before calling the store and reserving it with a sizable deposit. They said they would need a couple of days to do some final fettling so agreed to pick it up the following weekend. Before setting off on the 50 minute drive into Birmingham I called to check that the bike was ready but the chap on the phone said that the bike had been returned unsold to the warehouse. He said that it was my fault for not coming in on the day the bike had been reserved even though that was not agreed and that they couldn't refund the deposit over the phone and that I would still need to come in. I bought a Canyon on the internet instead. I will not be buying anything from Evans Cycles in the future.
