FAULTY BIKE, POOR SERVICE AND NO FULL REFUND
We bought a £130 bike for my son's birthday from Bikes2UDirect. A Piranha P120. It was faulty and has been sent back but has still cost us £45!
The bike was supposed to be delivered 75% assembled so you just have to fit the front wheel, handle bars and brakes. It wasn't.
The bike was delivered with the rear wheel fitted incorrectly so the chain was so tight you couldn't turn the wheel with the pedal. The tools to adjust the rear wheel were not supplied and the stunt pegs were different to the ones in the instructions. Not having the tools to set the bike up meant paying £15 for a local shop to do it for us.
We then discovered the front wheel was buckled and also that the wheels / pedals grinded when you tried to ride the bike - the bearings were no good. There were some minor chips to the paintwork, but not something we were particularly worried about.
We arranged a return. As you would expect, the bike had to be dismantled and repackaged. This was a problem, as the type of stunt pegs delivered meant you need a special socket set with an extension part to go down inside the tube, which is why we'd had to pay to have the bike assembled. After finding a friend of a friend of a friend who was a mechanic, we managed to borrow the right tools to dismantle it.
When they got the bike back, Bikes2UDirect called up and told us it was damaged in transit coming back to them so they would charge 15% restocking fee!!! They made out that if we didn't accept that they'd send the bike back to us and not refund anything.
So now I have paid the original delivery, a charge to assemble the bike and had a deduction to return it, all because I was provided with a faulty bike by Bikes2U direct!
It makes me wonder whether this company makes money from delivering, restocking and then selling faulty bikes over and over!!
