Used the site for motor insurance. Lots to choose from, and it finds the cheapest true enough, but have to look elsewhere for customer reviews of the products. The cheaper ones get rubbish customer service reviews. I ended up with a cheaper quote direct from insurers (LV) than on confused.com. It's so difficult to compare like with like - they all seem to offer different things - although the 'compare' screen was helpful. I have come to the conclusion that its a real lottery, it's all a bit of a mystery, pay a small fee and hope you never need it - or pay more and hope for a good service if you do.
