All I wanted to do is buy a gold fish for my son, encountered the following problems:
Day 1: can't buy a gold fish because the water in the tank needs 3 days to settle.
3 days later: cant sell you a gold fish as your water is too hard, baught some treatment.
2 days later, they alowed us to buy 1 gold fish as the 30L tank was too small to buy any more.
Returned the 30l tank and replaced it with 50L tank.
Went back to pets at home to buy some now gold fish, they then said I have to wait 7 days for the filter to settle down. Omg all I want is some gold fish

A single Gold fish needs 80L, they were right, your tank is too small. 3 days/7 days is not long enough even though that's what pets at home say. You should read up on the nitrogen cycle and learn what you will be putting your fish through if you put them in your new aquarium without completing the cycle first, more lan likely your fish will die anyway. You should be completing a fishless cycle which can take over a month before introducing the first fish.

tbh im shocked they actually gave you some half decent advice to keep your fish alive!! normally they will just sell you ten goldfish to put in a shoe box lol. Pet shops should explain the nitrogen cycle before they sell fish, but theyre lazy money grabbers. So do some research and good luck getting it all up and running.

you cannot just chuck a fish in a bowl of water and expect it to live, imagine putting a person on mars "oh, the atmosphere has some oxygen, they will be fine!" No, they won't, they need the right conditions! you should also have left the tank and filter much longer, 2-3 weeks at least to cycle properly. and even 50l is pushing it for 1 goldfish. you should have started off with something easier like guppies or tetras. just because goldfish are the classic pet doesn't make them easy to keep. look into things before you go moaning about the one P@H that actually gives semi-decent advice.
