“awful customer service”

Written on: 15/05/2013

At first we were delighted with our bahama coffee set eventhough we had to wait almost a year for replacement glass top which arrived scratched. This year the glass top completely shattered for no apparent reason and Oceans werent in the least bit interested, and would notsupply me with the name of their glass manufacturer. Also the covers for the furniture last less than two years before beginning to start perishing. (read more)

“Bought for my pub”

Written on: 10/03/2013 by Dean-JS

My wife and I bought some Oceans furniture after seeing it at Grand Designs last year and absolutely loved it. We decided to also buy it for our pub's beer garden. Oceans have a trade department, so we got a great discount on the furniture as we were buying for a business - the delivery as before was prompt and we're now all set for Easter and then summer trade (fingers crossed the weather is just as nice to us!) “Do not buy from this company”

Written on: 03/03/2013

I brought a garden set from Milton Keynes knowing it was was flawed HOWEVER the flaw was a slight overhang of the glass. We checked it all over with even the sales lady saying our 'LOT' as they call it was the last one without scratches and marks. We brought our lot with the sales lady saying she would write the number all over the cushions etc so people could not swap items around. We asked what would happen if it turned up with a scratch on, she replied it would be replaced. THIS DID NOT... (read more)

Oceans's Comment

Written on: 08/03/2013

Dear Customer,
Thank you for your review. As you are aware we did offer to collect the goods because you were unhappy with them, we did not alter the lot, the lot that was brought to you was the lot that you purchased. We had no Haiti cube lot's left so please be assured that each customer took delivery of the Haiti cube that they purchased.
Our terms and conditions clearly state costs for unwanted items and as this was considered to be an unwanted item this was the cost advised to you. It is the consumers responsibility to read the terms and conditions, we are not able to force people to read them.
You requested free glass and a free weather cover from us, we were unable to do this as the price of the goods had been reduced by so much. Therefore we reverted to arranging a collection from you - this you declined.
We apologise that you are unhappy with the company, but we most certainly did not deceive you or mis sell to you - you saw the goods you purchased and these were the goods delivered to you.
We have answered all the emails that you sent to us, in fact we had to chase you with regards to the collection as you had not responded to our email.
We have done nothing wrong with regards to your order.
We wish you all the best.
Kind regards,
Oceans

“Caribbean Hut Atrocious quality - failed after 7 months”

Written on: 21/11/2012 by Allan.Drew (1 review written)

I purchased the 4.5x3m Caribbean Hut at the Ideal Home Show in March 2011. Cost was £1300. I eventually erected the very nice looking hut in Sept 2011 on our new deck. In October I removed the top covers as the handbook instructed and replaced them in April 2012. By October 2012 the cover had split and torn and the material had lost all its strength. This would appear to be the result of ultra violet degradation. I wrote to Oceans about the problem but received a reply denying all... (read more)

Oceans's Response to Allan.Drew's Review

Thank you for your feedback.
As you are aware the huts are advertised and sold as temporary structures, designed as an alternative to our parasols. We have never told you that the huts are designed for indoor use. You had the hut for 18 months before you contacted us to advise of a possible issue. The material we use is not UV resistant, however we do not advertise the product material as being UV resistant.
You will see that we responded to your Solictitors letters with the true facts of how long you had been in receipt of the goods and also issued them with a copy of your signed delivery note.
We apologise that you are not happy with the product but this is not a faulty product.

It may not be a faulty product but it is definitely unfit for purpose. My solicitor also takes the view that you are in breach of the Sale of Goods and explained the reasons in the letter to you.

I wonder why you mention "the true facts" other than that you are simply grasping at any explanation, however flimsy, to justify your position. I have never disputed that the product had been with me for 18 months at the time of failure. However the cover has only been in use for 7 of those 18 months, since it was stored for the remaining 11 months. These are the real "true facts" that your product is completely unfit for purpose.

Basically you cannot expect to charge £1500 for a product which lasts only 7 months. You implicitly acknowledge that the product should last a number of seasons by advising customers to remove the cover at the end of each season.

I had exactly the same problem and have now abandoned the whole thing. Real rip off people. I have all of the correspondence that fell on deaf ears but I could supply this to help the cause to stop these irresponsible dealers.

“Oceans Outdoor Furniture is not outdoor furniture at all”

Written on: 11/09/2012 by whatonearthdoyouwant

I bought the Oceans Caribbean hut in June 2011 and was delighted with the fitting of it. The canvas roof was removed in October as instructed and put back in May of this year. Within a week I noticed that the canvas was splitting and continued to do this until we had to report the problem and remove it. When I phoned the company the girl said it was obviously weather damage, it would cost three hundred pounds to send someone to inspect it and it was a week out of guanntee.I arranged to... “Non-existent customer service”

Written on: 29/08/2012

Although I fell in love with this furniture at the Ideal Home Exhibition, I would never have bought it had I known what a horrible company this is to deal with. At the exhibition a big show is made of how the cushions all store under the table and that a "weather" cover is supplied. I was very pleased with this when it first arrived as the cover seemed to keep the water out in moderate showers. I do understand it can't be completely waterproof in the sort of weather we have had this... (read more)
