I shopped for weeks before choosing Leather Sofa Co for my purchase of 3 den pieces. I told salesman I needed all elements of furniture to be manufactured in USA-the wood, the leather tanned in USA. I picked the design from their showroom. The leather hide I chose was from the samples they displayed but was on sale and being discontinued. It was the same procedure the other furniture companies have. AND I paid extra $250 for lifetime warranty. Their plant/ warehouse, office and another showroom is in Lewisville. Salesman said if I ever had problems it was close. I WAS SOLD A BILL OF GOODS- so to speak. In reality he lied to me. The furniture was delivered4 weeks after purchase. From day 1 it left a terrible smell in my home. I developed headaches, red itchy eyes, breathing difficulty, vomiting, dizziness, etc. I was "allergic" to this furniture. I acquired ER and Doctor visit bills. I was advised to keep my exposure to furniture at a minimum. I stayed away and spent many nights at my sons home. While being absent from this toxicity my symptoms were gone. I researched this problem, called the company to let them know what was happening. I was told the leather was "gassing off" and I should store the furniture in my garage or a storage unit for a few months. I asked for how long.....could be 2 or even 6 months. Even my guests who came into my home experienced red itchy eyes due to the odor. I did a tour after this health problem of the Lewisville location where they assemble the furniture. They had fans circulating the air and overhead warehouse door open.....probably to stimulate breathable air. That's when I was told they get their leather from South American and Europe/ Asia countries and keep the hides in their cold storage until they use them. My salesman told me the leather was tanned in USA. He lied. During the first week I requested to return their products, but they wouldn't. Finally they said they would for a 40%restocking fee. Their charge would not give me back sales tax nor the $250 warranty fee. I had to pay for the pick up delivery back to them also. Really? Other companies during my lifetime of buying furniture for myself or another family member has ever required a "restocking" fee for the return of BAD furniture. The showroom in Lewisville had many pieces that I was told are now for sale next I saw had reduced prices. I was told they were ther because they were either made wrong (left hand or right hand type) or did not fit room size. The tanning process in USA is very strick but not so in other countries. The chemicals used are very toxic. I really liked the set I picked out but not at the expense of my health. They have their furniture and they still haven't refunded my full amount paid, I'm still trying to settle this.. It will probably go to court. Their furniture costs more than other suppliers for comparable items but I was willing to pay. I did choose the same design from a Manufacturer out of North Carolina who gets all their materials including leather tanned in USA. If they do the correct thing and refund fully to me or we mediate a compromise I will let this forum know
