“One Shop NOT to buy anything”

★☆☆☆☆

written by kumar8123 on 06/09/2020

I purchased a set of love seats and sofa from kato - furniture depot. From the day one All the items started leather friction noise. I first emailed furniture depot.com, and after a couple of weeks with not response I called again. The experience left me feeling angry and helpless. I was told that bonded leather making noise, I was repeatedly reminded of the length of time but I am helpless, especially the person I dealt with who is fit for nothing. He doesn't even have minimum responsibility about the customers. I would strongly suggest, based on service and experience, that if you have the opportunity to do business with another discount furniture dealer you do so. You will not find a sympathetic ear here, but you will be told the facts about your purchase if it doesn't fall into a category they are willing to work with. Good luck out there, and beware.

“Disgraceful Cust.Service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by RobinsonTara on 22/05/2020

Do not let this place fool you - horrible unprofessional experience purchased complete bedroom suite of furniture in april. Order was paid in full at the time of the order. Prior to ordering it was confirmed it was in stock by placing a phone call to furniture depot (fd) in rahway nj located 82 miles from my home (1 hour 25 min drive) during the initial conversation, we were very clear furniture was needed asap. We were told it would be delivered the following week (we ordered on a friday) monday they call and inform they needed to confirm card with a conference call with my bank since we recently moved. That never happened, instead he called us again to ask for a confirmation of my debit card numbers over the phone. We declined and informed him that we already submitted it online but that we were not comfortable providing that information to the salesman and informed him it already cleared our bank account. (that should have been our first clue to the unprofessional behavior that we later endured by furniture depot) he informed at that time we would receive delivery the following week because the delivery route was already planned for the week. (not what he stated upon ordering) entering week 3 after purchase, no furniture, no return phone call. I sent an email to inquire, fd customer service replied stating that it was agreed upon the delivery time would be 2-3 weeks, that is just one of the many untruths. The same day he calls to explain that furniture depot will not deliver our paid & in stock furniture until they have additional deliveries in our area and we will just need to wait for that to happen but it generally takes 2-3 weeks. He concluded the conversation by stating we would receive a phone call from delivery company by the end of week 3. Another untruth. Left messages -no response. Emailed - no response. No call was ever received by him or anyone else until the day the furniture was being delivered delivery company called and scheduled for a monday 3-7pm and low and behold it was 6:57 pm when it arrived. The delivery guys were great, we actually felt bad for the two kids being stuck in the middle of such nonsense!! I am being kind as i put this into words, because furniture depot’s salesman made the delivery process an absolute nightmare from a to z wasting the time of the delivery guys, customers and the local police with being untruthful, shady practices and unprofessionalism like nothing we have ever seen. This company is a complete and utter disgrace that lacks in all facets of professional business practices. After waiting more than 4 weeks, after our purchase there was slight damage to 3 pieces ! Whether the delivery guys called fd/delivery company they work for to inform company or just by chance was left unsaid however he happened to call us as we were inspecting the final pieces being delivered. My husband explained our disappointment that 3 pieces had minor issues of damage to him explaining clearly the damage was not caused during delivery, it is definitely a lack in the quality check from the manufacturer. Chipped drawer and paint flaking from the bottom of the dressers and small dent. Immediately he offered to refund $25 per damaged piece if we decided to keep it (only to recant the offer after it was agreed upon) or we would need to wait an additional 2-3 weeks or more for another delivery of the replacement pieces that again are in stock because they refuse to meet customers needs or provide a quality smooth delivery process for damaged items sold. We agreed on the refund and hung up only to receive another call a few minutes later for him to recant the initial offer of refunding $25 per damaged piece as agreed. He now informs he cannot refund anything for the damages until he spoke with his boss once he returned to the office the next business day. We decided we would keep the furniture, it was told to him that it was fine, we would keep the furniture and wait for his call the next day. The experience was one untruth after another. We ultimately decided to keep the furniture and have it repaired locally being it was minor rather than wait another month. The $75 would have definitely helped with the cost of the repair if they actually stood behind anything they offer. Upon completing the delivery it was requested to write the damages found on the delivery slip and sign it. Husband listed the damage and signed the paperwork, the delivery gentlemen left. Not 5 minutes pass and we received a horrible unprofessional phone call from both him and the delivery company demanding us to sign the slips again without listing the damages and stated we accept the furniture “as is” because by listing the damages it leaves furniture depot open to a lawsuit. We could not believe what we were being told to do. After all the untruths, we anticipated he would more than likely not refund what was promised and if returned we could expect either never to receive or experience another lengthy wait with multiple excusess and untruths but never did we expect what he did next. He asked for us to cross out what was written and write accept the damages as is and sign. It gets worse once we absolutely declined he and the delivery company began calling multiple times threatening us. They said we are keeping furniture that did not belong to us and threatened us. When they did not convince us to accept the damaged furniture it as is they threatened to call the police and demanding us to return the furniture we just hung up. He called again only to state that the delivery company is in route to pickup the furniture because we refuse to write we accepted it “as is” and inform he called the police because we refused to hand over the furniture we paid for. He stated the furniture belongs to the furniture company so our refusing to hand it over was theft of furniture depots property. We actually laughed at his tactics because it was so unbelievable. Ten minutes or so goes by and the delivery gentlemen returned. They were just as confused and disturbed by the actions of furniture depot. We refused to give them anything especially without a full refund first. And a few minutes later the police arrive. As we already knew, the officer could not do anything to help them. It was our property, we purchased from furniture depot and if they wanted it back it was a civil matter. We felt terrible that with all of what is going on in the world furniture depot resorted to waste the time of our local pd on something so absurd and ridiculous. The disgust we have from the horrible actions & business tactics from furniture depot’s customer service, delivery company and salesman cannot be stated in words. What a disgusting practice for any paying customer to endure. Shady, untruthful, unprofessional every step of the way !!! I am not one to review any company negatively but this was way out of line & the most unprofessional disgraceful purchase experience we have ever dealt with. I will never recommend nor purchase another thing from such a disgusting company that practices the way they have. Save the aggravation and shop elsewhere.

“Horrible shipping and customer service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Carley166 on 09/05/2016

I was contacted after sending an email about shipping details. They give no information as to the status of the order. Once contacted, I was told it will take an additional week for shipping and someone will contact me to schedule. Two weeks later I received a call stating that my item is scheduled for delivery the next day, Mother's Day weekend. I have no one to be in the home and will have to contact my landlord to see if he will do if. I asked for another time and the very unprofessional lady stated no. I called back and spoke with a man who says they have no idea when they would be able to ship this out and Monday is unavailable. He could not tell me any further details and said they haven't created a list for the next week so how can you say Monday is unavailable? I'm totally annoyed and to save $30 bucks, I may be getting screwed.

“Terrible customer service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Longqc276 on 17/11/2014

After placing an order I received no update online or by email to the progress of my order so I telephoned and spoke to a helpful member of staff that explained that delivery could only be performed on weekends and I had unfortunately missed the cut-off for that weekend. However, he confirmed my details and explained that my order was in stock. After another week, I phoned again to find out if my furniture was going to be delivered this weekend. Initially I was told that my order was now out of stock... it then transpired that the supplier had increased the price of the goods and the price was now $300 more (Furniture Depot offered to split the extra expense with me). However, I still wouldn't be able to have my furniture delivered for another 1-2 weeks (I'd already been without a sofa for 2 weeks by this point!). When I asked why my previously in-stock item now required me to pay more money and still couldn't be delivered this weekend, the representative became very argumentative and said I should be grateful that they are trying to sort this out for me - I had to phone them repeatedly for updates remember! I have cancelled my order - their loss of a $2000+ order...

“Poor client service. ”

I purchased a set of couches from kato - furniture depot. The couches looked great, but after a year the bonded leather started to peel away. After 14 months the sofa looks like it is 10 years old. I first emailed furniture depot.com, and after a week with not response I called again. The experience left me feeling angry and helpless. I was told that bonded leather doesn't hold up, and that for 650 dollars I got my monies worth. I was repeatedly reminded of the length of time I have had the couches, and that unfortunately there was nothing they could do except contact the vender and ask for extra cushions. I would strongly suggest, based on service, that if you have the opportunity to do business with another discount furniture dealer you do so. You will not find a sympathetic ear here, but you will be told the facts about your purchase if it doesn't fall into a category they are willing to work with. Good luck out there, and beware.

“I had some questions for a member of staff at...”

★★★★★

written by on 28/06/2009

I had some questions for a member of staff at furnituredepot.com concerning whether or not the item was in stock, how the delivery process works, whether or not I was eligible for the 5% Memorial Day Weekend sale, and when I would be billed for my order. The member f staff was extremely helpful in this regard, explaining step by step how the process worked, what we should do upon delivery including inspecting all the pieces for even minor damages prior to signing the delivery waiver, and that delivery and assembly was free in New Jersey and that we were entitled to the 5% discount. The only question he was unable to immediately answer was whether or not the item was in stock. He took my number, and called me back the same day to explain to me that it was not at the regular warehouse but that it could be delivered to that warehouse and subsequently shipped to us within 7-10 days, at which time we placed the order. Within a week we were notified by the shipping company that the pieces would be delivered Saturday, June 6, 2009, between noon and 4pm. At around 2:30 the truck arrived, and 2 delivery men unloaded the truck, brought everything in, and assembled the table for us in the location we desired. They were professional and courteous. They removed all packing materials that they brought in, and left us with a beautiful new table. Overall, this was an excellent experience, and I look forward to dealing with furnituredepot.com as well as David again in the future for any other purchases we intend to make to furnish our new home.
