thetrainline.com is neither online nor a service.
Fine if you want to make a booking and need to change nothing, and there are lots of ticket machines at your station, and you arrive half an hour early to retrieve your tickets. Otherwise, best avoided. The software doesn't not deal with any changes. If you use the app for your ticket, you cannot get a refund. If you need to change the ticket, the software will get it wrong. The company will not admit any errors and charge you a tenner for the problem. And then you still have to get to the station and print the tickets and send them off in registered pos, only to spend weeks arguing and still not get your refund. The telephone helpline people hang up on you, and you will be a hundred quid out of pocket indefinitely.
I am now going to the trusty people in the station who give good advice, issue the right tickets and sort it out politely and without charge immediately if you need to make a change. Oh, yes, and then there are the postal charges. AVOID!
