“Cant Even get Signed In”

Paid upfront for a years subscription after having a six month subscription last year. Enjoyed using the site last year - this time a bit of a rip off as I cant even get signed in. “cancellation of free trial”

It has been very disappointing trying to cancel my free trial. I cancelled 24 hrs before end of trial and received an e-mail saying sorry I was not continuing then another e-mail saying thank you for subscribing. I have sent two e-mails which have not been answered and a third today. The annoying thing is that there is no telephone number to ring and explain. Most annoying. I have had the same problem. They have now taken a further 2 more payments, I have only just realized. I have e mailed them 3 times with no response, no contact number. Realy bad service, be very wary of this site.

“Better than the 'largest' uk alternative in finding...”

Have subscribed to 2 uk genealogy sites since June 2014. I find the findmypast user interface rather old fashioned and basic to look at. BUT in terms of research and finding records it is far more efficient and productive than the other site I use which claims to be the largest uk site available. I agree. I used to think the site was brilliant - until the new improved site was launched.... which to most people is completely useless. I've come online to search reviews in anticipation of finding things may have improved, but judging by the endless poor reviews here and elsewhere, I suspect it is as still as bad as before. I was given a 2 month free extension. but there was no point in that if the site was unusable. I was one of the lucky ones that managed to then get a pro-rate refund. I'm glad I did!

I have subscribed twice, foolish me, and both times have been able to use the site for a few hours. Signed off and then went to use site the next day and found that I am unable to access records. Keep getting to page to choose subscription method. Have asked support for help the first time to no effect and have now just asked for help the second time - we shall see what happens. I really never had time to try it in that time frame so planned to cancel the day before it would be renewed until I could find more time in my schedule. “Can't Find Your Past Anymore”

FindMyPast has been a very beneficial program for me to use. I have been a member for about 2 years. It is easy to search and I love how it allows you to select variants in the spelling of a name. As a subscriber to FMP for well over 10 years and thier previous site 1837Online,I can safely say that since FMP 'improved' the site in March 2014 I have turned off the Auto renew!

Since the change over I have found just 2 new records, records I found before in many cases I can not find or if I can I have to jump through all sorts of hoops to find....

If FMP are so good why are they giving refunds, extentions?

Why have they formed a group of researchers to help them sort the mess out i.e. the Customer Participation Group?

Prior to March 2014 I would have happily recommened FMP but not now, FMP need to acknowledge they made a huge mistake in not testing the site fully beforehand, they also need to acknoweldge they have dealt with the complaints extremly poorly

Save your money until the site improves....

I find QRSMART210S review to have been made by someone who has very little knowledge of the truth regarding FMP shambolic new platform.
I would take the review with a strong pinch of salt,
FMP have teams of folk working on resolving the functionality issues with the new platform ,and after over 13 weeks of their platform things have not improved enough.
The new platform is very much work in progress - relying on the generous help of FMP once very satisfied customers.
The new platform is not an improvement yet FMP always suggest the fault lies with customers not being familiar with it's functionality.
A once brilliant site has sun without trace - avoid like the plague until FMP get their act together later nest year,

I find the above naive, as the previous successes were obtained by using the original system. The "upgraded" system is a sad attempt to make it look more modern but without the clarity of the old system. An "all-in-one" composite page of responses is unsatisfactory, as it pulls in dubious links with tenuous relationships to the original query. It then takes many further attempts (at more cost) to try to clarify which of the options is of any use. I will be cancelling my subscription, as I feel that FMP has little ability or interest to resolve the many and serious defficiencies in its' system. My rating - one star!

I'm sorry but I find this review quite unbelievable. As a long term subscriber to Find My Past since it was 1837 on line I wish to make the following comments. It was a great genealogy site and I recommended it to all my friends. However since they updated the site in March 2014 it is reduced to a shambolic mess. It was the best it is now it is the worst. After 13 weeks there does not appear any sign of improvements. The search engine is difficult to use even for a very experienced researcher. Learners don't stand a chance. The company also have a very arrogant attitude to their customers and insist everything is fine. I am not renewing my subscription and I would think very carefully before wasting your money. Maybe in time things will improve untill then keep your money in your pocket.

I found this a great site in the past. Now the new site is terrible. the layout is very sparse and while searching you can only add very little information into the seach engine, therefore you have to trawl through and spend more credits trying to find the right person. Once logged out I havent been able to log back in and wont be able to use my credits before the use by date. Tried and tried to contact someone from the site but without success. Goodbye Find My Past, my 12 month subscription expires shortly and I won’t be renewing until they’ve sorted their site out. “British customers sold down the river”

I agree with every word of this review. I have been a user of Find My Past since it was 1837 on line. It was one of the best research sites now it is the the worst. We have definitely been taken for a ride. The search engine was supposed to have been rigorously tested before release. I don't think this was the case as even now three months on the site is hardly fit for purpose. Rather than making things easier searching is now very difficult and despite many promises of fixes and setting things right there is little improvement. I won't be renewing my subscription. Please think carefully if you are thinking of joining this site.
