“Easy to Negotiate the Records”

Written on: 02/12/2016 by DanteOrtega (1 review written)

Although I have previously subscribed to other genealogy sites I find FMP to be the far easiest to negotiate through the records. The interface is very clear and downloading original documents to my laptop is easy. I have found in other sites that the information is too busy" and off putting and doesn't necessarily give the results I want. Since joining FMP I have managed to fill in many missing details and the 1939 Register has been very helpful in this. If I have difficulty finding an… Read Full Review

“Findmypast has proved to be the right site for me!”

Written on: 27/10/2016 by Over49 (1 review written)

Before joining Findmypast, I had used other free and paying sites, with no success of finding any relatives, even those I knew a lot about and was on the verge of losing interest. However, Findmypast has renewed my enthusiasm, I couldn't believe the number of records and family members I have found and added to my tree. Even now with an established tree, additional information occasionally arises about my ancestors, and each new piece of information sends me off on a hunt again. My aunt has… Read Full Review

“Best site for convict information”

Written on: 27/10/2016 by Carver137 (1 review written)

Whilst I wouldn't say it's the best site for genealogists who are starting out at the beginning, it is definitely the best site for finding documents about criminal convictions, so once you've got your basics done and you're looking for details it's ideal. I started on Genes Reunited then graduated to using Ancestry (very good for international movements) and FamilySearch but now I'm mostly using findmypast and the British Newspaper Archive, plus Australian convict record sites. Each has its… Read Full Review

“could try much harder”

Written on: 27/10/2016 by Foley375 (1 review written)

i am new to this site and am finding the systems old and out of date compared to todays computer systems . Its like using DOS from the 1980's. It could be me with a new system but even the help Chat line was of no real help and i then phoned the help line and felt that the person on the phone thought I was an idiot. I am again today trying to solve my inability to resolve the current problem and i understand that it could take some time to master the way it works BUT at this time I wish I… Read Full Review

“DO NOT TRUST”

Written on: 25/10/2016 by MikeHolland (1 review written)

Do not Trust Be very careful of their "One Month" only plan. It's not really just for a month ? Without knowing it, I had omitted to tick a well hidden button on their website allowing them to automatically extract a further £10 a month from me without so much as a by your leave, for months and months. Avoid this company at all costs They are now refusing to refund the money they took from my account each month without my permission, even though they can clearly see that I only used their… Read Full Review

“Could do better”

Written on: 25/10/2016 by blMyrick65 (1 review written)

Indifferent search facilities - can look for a name with a wide date range, images excellent where available. As with all online genealogical sites, it is hard to know where the gaps in their provision lie. I prefer Ancestry, but use this and other sites in the hope that they have records the others lack. As other sites, there is a lack of early Irish records. Irish newspapers, particularly provincial Irish papers, would be a useful early resource as so many other sources are lacking. As it… Read Full Review

“Findmypast”

Written on: 22/10/2016 by cdMartinez40 (1 review written)

I use findmypast with other websites which works really well as sometimes answers appear on one and not the other. Findmypast is easy to use and navigate. I also like the 1939 register as I can find things out whilst waiting for the 1921 census to be released and at least gives an update as to where people were and sometimes find things out such as my husbands grandparents having a lodger which we didn't know. It is frustrating when records don't come up especially if you can find them on… Read Full Review

“not sufficiently helpful”

Written on: 21/09/2016 by Sulpicia (1 review written)

I'm quite annoyed with the repetitive emails I keep getting from findmypast, also with the hints I keep finding on various relatives on my family tree. The hints are mostly giving information I already know about recently living family members. I don't require information about Victorian ancestors. I'm struggling with people who lived in the 1700's. The really frustrating thing about the search facility on findmypast is that I can type in facts that are already clarified and the search comes up… Read Full Review

“Very easy to use”

Written on: 04/09/2016 by JuLoG (1 review written)

I have been using FindMyPast for over a year now. It was the first site I tried and I have found it very easy to use.Initially I took out a monthly subscription as it seemed better value than PAYG but then there was a special offer on a yearly subscription so I changed to that. I like the fact you can save the document you are looking at to the individual people mentioned in them so you can access them again easily without having to re-search for them. It is amazing to be able to see the… Read Full Review

“Rarely Defeated and very helpful”

Written on: 02/09/2016 by Markybx (1 review written)

I use several Genealogy sites, both free and paid, and Find My Past is my go to site for every thing. It is easy to use, even if you are without much, or any relevant info. Finds relatives that other sites never can and the Census info is especially useful. If there is a conflict of information between FMP and others I use the FMP information as it has never let me down. The search function is about the best I have used, as it will search on just about any detail and is easy to follow. Be… Read Full Review

“No refund”

“Can only reopen record hints without re-searching”

Written on: 21/08/2016 by Marisah100 (1 review written)

The records available are extensive and I like the way it includes more detail than other sites on census records, but unless the records have appeared as hints I have not found an easy way to reopen those records so I can go over the information. There might be a way to do it, but if there is, it is nowhere near as user friendly as other systems. Overall, it is costly as I have only found it useful as a search tool and have to save/transfer information elsewhere, using it in combination with… Read Full Review

“Found My Past”

Written on: 19/08/2016 by ZaidGreene20 (1 review written)

FindMyPast.co.uk has truly found my past. I have found so many documents containing information about my ancestors, and it is a special thrill when you find something with your ancestor's actual signature on it. The variety of the documents available and the speed in which they are retrieved is amazing. Just yesterday I was looking at a will from 1753 which gave a detailed list of what was to be passed along to a daughter - 4 feather beds, pewter dishes, oak table, etc. - it was fascinating… Read Full Review

“English Records”

Written on: 25/05/2016 by cuWillis155 (1 review written)

I have found FindMyPast to be very good for searching English records and have been able to obtain the occasional document that was not available on Ancestry. There is still a lot of information stashed away in obscure archive offices and when these are finally released, I'm sure that FindMyPast will become the best place to obtain them… Read Full Review

“Been able to trace lots of family”

Written on: 11/05/2016 by WillDuncan484 (1 review written)

Despite knowing DOB's and other information, other services failed to acknowledge their existence. Within 48 hours of starting the 12 months free trial, I had managed to build the family tree fairly rapidly. A year on and I am still finding new relatives, the tree now has near 600 people on it. It is easy to use and a simple interface makes it easy to navigate and search. Only negative is that sometimes hints stay showing even though clicking on that person says there aren't clues. … Read Full Review

I'm sorry to query this review but how can it fail to be value for money if it is free? Many of us who have paid full subscription for years would love to know how the reviewer received a 12 months free trial when all that is advertised is 14 days. I think that Find My Past will be receiving many requests for 12 months free trial when this review has been circulated.

“Easy to use”

Written on: 01/05/2016 by CarlosDonahue99 (1 review written)

I spend hours on Find My Past and look at the FMP Friday email before I go to work! You may find the following hints handy if you are a starter - Always use the name variation box. If you are wanting to do a straight forward family tree start with the 1939 register and census years (1841-1911). The hints on the family tree part can get you mixed up so I don't use them. Middle names are really useful. Use the transcription as a signpost but make sure you open the original file. Even if the… Read Full Review
