I have been signed up for groupon for a number of months now as I am planning my wedding for next year and had been told that sometimes package deals are offered at substantial discount. In the meantime I have researched a number of local venues and have booked appointments to visiti our favourites to make a decision over the next few weeks. I had completely put the groupon idea out of my mind as nothing has come up on there at all since Jan for my area for weddings. By coincidence one of my narrowed down venues is on groupon today offering a package deal for £2500 for 50 day guest and 100 evening guests including marquee hire, stating that this is at 50% discount. This sounds like an absolute bargain and when you click on the venues website it does in fact confirm in the package brochure that the price of this package is usually £4995. However, I just happened to print the wedding package brouchure from this venue's website this time last week and the price of this same package was being advertised as only £2000!!!!
I would absolutely have fallen for this if I had not been aware of the venues normal prices. The Groupon offer is actually charging people £500 more than the normal advertised price for 2012 packages. I shall be stayoing well clear of groupon from now on and am glad that I discovered that it's a con before wasting any money on so called deals.
