I purchased a fitted microwave in January 2012, with a replacement cover for 3 years. ( total £154.99)
Since recently it had developed a technical fault, and since it's still under warranty spoke to their customer services. They confirmed that since this product is not available anymore and they don't have anything with similar measurements, I should take it to the nearest Argos for a refund.
I took the microwave to Cowley retail park store, and requested for a refund on my debit card. They said since it was purchased using a Argos card, the refund has to go back to Argos card. This is even though I have settled for this item long ago, and also the fact that they don't have the same item or something similar where I was prepared to pay more.
Finally I agreed to have the refund on my Argos card, and since I didn't have the card on me, I told them I will be back with the card within 15 minutes since I live locally, and on gthat promise I left the faulty microwave at the branch and left get my card back.
when I came back to the branch within 15 minutes, now they're saying that they can only give vouchers for that amount not a refund on my card. When I told this lady that I was assured of a refund on my Argos card 15 minutes ago by a another lady,. But point blank they refused to do that, and even she wouldn't allow me to talk to this lady to confirm what she promised. They were so miserable even though I was a Argos card holder for the last 12 years.
So i had to call the card services couple of times and had to relate the whole episode, which took about 45 minutes, and in turn they had to check my previous statements to verify, talk to the Cowley retails Park store, and authorize them to make the refund back into my Argos card. The customer adviser whom I spoke to over the phone confirmed that I can take my Argos card to the counter for the refund. When I did that again this lady claiming to be the Manager of the store refused saying nobody had spoken to her from card services and she can't do the refund back on my card. She was so rude unhelpful. But another lady just walked in and confirmed that card services gave the authorization for this refund, and finally it was done. the whole transaction took just over 1 hour. I was very dissapointed the way they handled this simple refund process, and would never encourage anyone to shop at Argos.
