I tend to use Amazon for Christmas and Birthday gifts, but also throughout the year for books, DVDs & electrical items. I once bought an external hard drive, which after 9 months completely died. I contacted Amazon about the said device and they issued me with a full refund (as if you find a fault with anything you buy with them during the first 12 months, they replace it or refund you).
I used their live chat help and talked to an actual human being who helped sort everything out. They even paid the postage costs.
