What did I like? The prices, like everyone else I guess. That's all. I have bought goods from other UK companies and some overseas companies with UK operations, including Amazon, Marks & Spencer and John Lewis and all have accepted my credit card payments without delay or fuss and all have delivered goods quickly and efficiently.
Not so, Simply Electronics. First I was obliged to open a PayPal account for this transaction. Secondly I was asked to provide ID, which I did to THEIR specifications. Thirdly I was told my true, recent and accurate ID details were unacceptable. Then I had to telephone Simply Electronics (a slow and tedious procedure) and was advised to split my order into two parts. This was allegedly to process the payments more speedily. Then I was notified that my ID documentation was OK! Finally my credit card was debited for the single most expensive item and my bank account was debited for the cheaper goods.
I then found that the goods (Canon Zoom Lens and Hoya Filters) were "in stock" in Hong Kong!!! I believe that companies with addresses in the UK (yes, I know that their Head Office IS in Hong Kong) should make that information clear on their website.
Ironically, I got e-mails from one of their "Customer Service Executives" on the 5th and 7th of this month asking me to review my experience to date. I have received the two cheaper items but at the time of writing all I have for the expensive item is a tracking number so my plan to take the item with me on holiday tomorrow looks doomed.
