“Good quality laptop, overall impressed but very slow...”

★★☆☆☆

After a recommendation from a friend I decided to purchase a custom built laptop from PC Specialist.

The UltraNote II looked to be the best and the ability to customize the specification is superb.

The laptop itself it high quality, sturdy, it looks and feels professional and understated unlike most consumer laptops which look and feel tacky and cheap.
It is a laptop I would feel comfortable using for business purposes.

The only disappointment for me was the length of time to receive the laptop.
Whilst I knew it would take extra time due to being customised I waited over 2 weeks with the laptop stuck in the 'pre-production' stage i.e. sitting in a queue with nothing being done.
The description on the website states "Laptops: Estimated 7 to 9 working days" however after placing the order and logging in you will see that only 54% of laptops manage to be dispatched within 14 days. 94% are within 21 days so the claim of 7 to 9 working days is either outdated or deceitful.
Even after placing the order the description of the phases the order goes through states the pre-production time should be less than one week which was not accurate at all.

It also easy to overlook that there is a 'Fast Track' option available to receive the laptop within 5 working days for an extra £30, unsurprisingly this can be added onto the order after it has been placed.

After waiting over 2 weeks with no progress, and then another 8 working days (2 weeks) for the laptop to be built, tested and delivered according to the website I felt compelled to pay the additional £30 for the fast track service (most likely delaying another person's order by jumping the queue).
Unsurprisingly the next day the order had exited the queue, all work had been completed and it was ready to dispatch.
I believe orders are held in the preproduction phase for a longer than they need to be in order to tempt people into paying the extra money for the fast track service.

Overall I am very pleased with the laptop itself, and the ability to customise it to my needs. However for me the serious problem is the lack of honesty up front in the time you will have to wait (especially the pre-production phase where nothing is being done with your order) and the almost obligatory 'fast track' fee to receive your order within a reasonable time frame.
