I have a Dell machine which came with McAfee pre-installed. When it came to apply for another year I did so, but despite paying the money, the Virus protection stopped and failed to start up as it used to when the renewal date expired. I have since bought it again for £29.99 but it failed to install with a simple message saying 'Failed to install, try installing again'. After seven hours of scouring the internet for solutions I decided to treat it as a bad joke that cost £30. I downloaded AVG...

I've just download McAfee, for £29.99, but I had to shut down in the middle, because it stopped and was interfering with my broadband connection. The thief-proof software went through the motions of installing, but didn't, and now I don't know how to download it again.
This, like AVG said there were no threats on my computer, yet Clam Win free unearthed one W32 virus, plus 120 virus infected 135-dialers which their quaranteened; this costing nothing. Sadly, I could not find an authentic trustworthy supplier for Clam Win, so I went to McAfee, who - surprise, surprise, who one hour after running Clam Win, and getting those virus reports, McAffee reckons my PC hais possessive of no infections whatsoever. So who is right, and who has paid £29.99, only to be assured *your computer is
protected and clean* Hmmmm

Clam Win was the best for me - and I downloaded it for free, from the internet. This - when all the others, including McAfree, are telling me that my PC is clean and safe to use - detected 120 infected 135-dialers on my computer, plus one Trojan, and one W42 virus; all residual of a recent hacker attack, which installed itself into my system, and obviously is still there. My experience with McAfee is very disappointing; enough to prompt me to remark:
Barnham was right: *There's One Born Every Minute !*
Thanks McAfee, for a £29.99 sphere of useless plastic that has done nothing except slow my PC down to snail-pace, so that
now it takes me 20 seconds to download each picture from the internet. I intend to seek a refund, otherwise my complaint will go to the BBC TV consumer show *Watchdog*, and for sure.
