Both our sons (11 and 9) have classic Kankens for school and the quality of these backpacks is just amazing. After three years my older son needs now a bigger Kanken because he has more stuff to carry. So we ordered a Maxi Kanken. The Kankens might be more expensive than some other typical backpacks people buy for their kids for school, but the quality is really worth it.
