At first this looks like a good idea. Basically the unit doesn't scan but photographs the slide or neg. This means it is VERY quick. For this reason it got two stars. However the down side is that the quality of scan is poor. The scanner crops the image severely - you probably lose 4 or 5 mm on a 36mm wide frame - the colour rendition is very poor. Scans can have a red or blue cast on them - it varies. To correct this each scan would have to be evaluated and adjusted independently in Photoshop. The result is never perfect. The quality of focus is also "soft" when compared with a true scan. I would not recommend this product.

Having scanned at least 600 35mm colour slides since purchasing the x7 scanner I am very impressed with the design, performance and flexibility of the unit. The EV range from +2 to -2 is more than enough to cater for most slides and the speed of operation when scanning allows the user to multi-scan the same slide at different EV settings if so desired, to obtain the best result. The software supplied is adequate to download the scanned images to a PC but rather basic if further adjustments are needed. I soon changed over to my existing Photoshop elements programme to "rescue" some very old slides. overall - a good piece of kit for any enthusiast who needs to digitise their collection of slides, and very good value.
