I have been an eBay member since 2003 and sold/purchased lots. As a business seller I was finding using the site full of more and more fraudsters and eBay and Paypal just allowing this to happen. For example someone purchases something sent via first or second class then doesn't leave feedback, you have 45 days to file a claim. a few days before the 45 days is up they open a case saying the item hasn't arrived (knowing you are more likely to no longer have the proof of postage) and Paypal instantly hold the funds. Most honest people will email first after a week if an item doesn't turn up. Small businesses are going under due to fraudsters like this. I've also been ripped off by sellers so I think there has to be a middle ground. The fees have gone silly and it seems like only the big established businesses are thriving on there. Meaning they are becoming just like the high street but on the net. All those unique individual sellers will and are going out of business. Its great for de-cluttering your house but not for a career. I think they have just gone greedy as a company. I am now well and truly an Amazon person.
