I bought tickets for this show for my partners birthday. I have been to a couple of musicals before and been left relatively underwhelmed but I know that she likes them, had heard good things about this and quite like what I have seen of Tim Minchin, who has written all the songs. I have to say that this was absolutely fantastic. The songs are funny, the casting amazing and overall it was by far the most enjoyable night out I have ever had at the theatre. Matilda is obviously a childrens book and there were school groups there on the night that we went but the show will definitely appeal to adults as well. Highlights are the performances of the actors playing Miss Trunchball (the horrible headmistress), Matilda (really impressive for such a young actor to have so many scenes, singing and acting), and both of Matilda's parents. Her Dad is played by Paul Kaye (Dennis Pennis). I would recommend anyone to go and this. Great singing, amazing stage and the performance of the Trunchball is worth it alone.
