“Tough to return”

Don't buy gifts from here they will not let you even exchange unopened items. Often gifts don't come with a receipt and most stores acknowledge that, but not this one

HMV are the embodiment of movie entertainment. The outstanding, heterogeneity staff range is by far great. The company has full integrity and virtues towards customer satisfaction. Shopping in HMV is tremendous, the politeness and service is enthusiastic and pleasurable then any other retail store. If you are someone that is browsing games, DVD's, CD'S and other entertaining merchandise; its without hesitation HMV.

“Fantastic service.”

★★★★★

written by on 03/12/2014

I've been a HMV customer for a long time now, the staff at my local store always provide excellent customer service and can't do enough to help, The stores products are prices fairly imo, and if they don't have the item you are looking for in stock they can sometimes order the item into the store. I've did this on one occasion and it was ready to be picked up in less than a week. The only thing I don't like is the layout of the new store but this is because I'm used to their old store still which was their home for many years, however the staff are super friendly, have excellent customer service skills and always willing to help. I would recommend the store to anyone who asks and continue to shop there as long as its open

I purchased 2 million dollar piano's by Elton John. The staff very extremely helpful and went out their way to find the products I was looking for, and the prices very very good value for money. The shop is always nice and clean and tidy. Overall, its one of my favourite shops to visit in swindon

“Extremely disappointing service, staff incredibly rude”

★☆☆☆☆

written by pippal on 17/02/2014

My friend and I had gone to the Glasgow HMV tonight to meet Nina Nesbitt as she was doing an album signing. We had been queuing for a while when we realized everyone else had albums to be signed so I went downstairs (we were a few floors up) to buy one. The man who served me was really friendly and one of the only nice employees- no name but he was bald with a beard. I then went to go back upstairs to give my friend her album but one of the female staff members- I didn't get her name but she was heavy with mousy curly hair and glasses- told me they had closed the floor and that I couldn't get up. I tried to explain to her that my friend was already upstairs and I was just getting an album but she wouldn't listen to me and told me that if I wanted to meet Nina I had to go outside. Now I understand that hundreds of teenage girls must say the same thing to try and that it was after six and she must be wanting to get home but I felt that she was incredibly rude and unhelpful. I asked her if she expected me to go and stand outside by myself and she said yes she did. I am fifteen years old, I don't look very much older and I thought it quite unreasonable for her to ask me to stand outside myself at night in the middle of winter when there was no one else outside. I told her that it wasn't missing Nina I was worried about but that I just wanted to stand with my friend as she was also by herself but the employee just didn't care and told me I had to stand outside and wait. I understand her position but she didn't even try to check if I was telling the truth or not and was exceedingly ill-mannered. I then went downstairs to phone my friend and I bought a CD. I was walking about the shop for a while, talking to my friend on the phone to decide what to do when a male employee came up to me and told me I couldn't wander around the shop and that I had to leave. I wasn't creating a scene, all I was doing was walking about looking at DVD's and I had bought two CD's already so I really don't see what the problem was. Other people had been allowed to wait in the shop and they hadn't been asked to leave. The shop also didn't close until 8 and this was about half 6. I had to walk about Glasgow by myself for over an hour at night because I didn't want my friend to leave the queue. I thought it was extremely irresponsible for the staff member to tell me to go outside because, like I said, I am 15 years old and don't look any older and I was clearly upset about having to miss Nina yet he sent me outside anyway. Let me put that into picture for you- a fifteen year old girl, wandering Glasgow completely by herself on a Monday night with nowhere to go because most shops had shut. Not the safest thing in the world. I felt that the politest member was the security guard who, when I came back again to wait for my friend, allowed me to stand inside the door. I noticed that a woman had been allowed upstairs which angered greatly me as I had been so adamantly refused access. The staff's behaviour tonight was absolutely appalling, offensive, and utterly disrespectful. Their conduct reflects badly on HMV as a company and leaves little wonder as to why it is shutting down. It also essentially causes any artist who is related to it to look bad. If I was an artist I would be wary to promote my material with HMV. The customer service was thoroughly disgraceful and the worst I have ever experienced. I am tremendously unimpressed and I just can't express how disappointed I am with the treatment I received. This will be the last time I will ever shop with HMV unless they sort their act out and I will encourage my friends to boycott it as well. Not happy in the slightest.

“I love hmv”

★★★★☆

written by biggordiemick on 20/12/2013

Me and my wife tend to go to our nearest hmv which is in the metrocentre every week, normally on a Saturday as that's when we're both off work together. My wife is blind and has such a good memory when it come to music and the chats, especially the 80s, I like to test her knowledge when we go in to top up our dvd collection. Most of the staff in hmv are great with us, they even know us by name Mick & Lilly. I'm so grateful for the service I've received over the number of years we've been going. Many Thanks

“Not Recieved Product”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 13/03/2013

After ordering a product online on the 13-01-13 I still have not recieved it, however they have gone into administration which I understand. However, I've been waiting nearly 2 weeks now and I've contacted those who have taken over HMV and still had no reply in over a week after various emails. I am now wanting a full refund when I get the item to send it back and to get information on how to take it back. Still taking more time than any other delivery would.

“The day the music died”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 11/03/2013

A present hmv currently find themselves in more bother, now in administration. As a regular customer of hmv and normally pleased I am very peeved off at how a company you think you can trust and put your hard earned money into can get in a position like this. I purchased a £50 gift card and received a £30 gift card at xmas which is not not accepted yet hmv still continue to trade .. I have no idea how this is possible. Not to forget, the poor workers who now face unemployment!! Realistically speaking the future is approaching fast and gone are the days of shopping on the high street for music, sadly! However, not the first occasion I did ask a staff member at my local hmv before purchasing voucher, will there be any problems accepting gift cards? As the previous Xmas there was a similar situation .. The future is bleak, today was the day that the music died.

“What is wrong with people?”

★★★★★

written by on 10/01/2013

Do not read the other reviews on this website, most people only write reviews if they have one bad experience. HMV is a great shop, there are many reasons why you should support it instead of Amazon: 1. It does not avoid paying tax 2. It employs a lot more people than Amazon do, if they were to close, the high street would just be a place full of coffee shops. 3. HMV donate money every year to Teenage Cancer charities, Amazon do not mention anywhere that they donate money to charity. 4. It is the LAST Entertainment shop on the high street, if it closed what would be left, coffee shops? OK, some of the products cost more than buying from Amazon, because of the reasons above I think it is a good idea to buy there instead of Amazon, you can make up your own mind.

“Poor customer service and trading ethics”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Sastonheynes on 29/12/2012

No refunds nor exchange on opened present from my husband. Despite the returns policy on all the walls that the product must be in original packaging, with the receipt and return within 21 days, this means nothing, I have checked their website returns policy which states that DVDs must be unopened, this is a docking station. Beware before your part with your hard earned cash, think twice and then think again before shopping at hmv

“Really bad”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Crispyman on 22/12/2012

I ordered an item weeks ago for a Christmas gift, there were plenty showing in stock at the time and the order was allowed to go through. 4 days before Christmas I get an email saying the item is out of stock. I am now left unable to order from anyone else in time. The audacity to then suggest I go into one of their stores and buy a completely different gift from them really bugged me. I will be taking my money elsewhere.

“Service indifferent and off hand. ”

★★☆☆☆

written by cheryl113 on 21/12/2012

Whilst shopping in HMV in Stockport I arrived at the check out and realised that the Gift Card, which incidentally can't be used on line despite the fact that this is the way so many people shop, was not in my bag. I had already the day before gone to the HMV shop in the Trafford Centre but they didn"t have the particular CD's. I asked that the CD's were put to one side and the service from the assistant at the till was indifferent, verging on rude. Later in the day my daughter returned with the gift card, she experienced equally as offhand and indifference service, and came out feeling quite upset. As a previous reviewer suggested it's hardly surprising thatHMV are struggling!!!!! The items required were also cheaper in the internet including free postage.

“Who are these mugs?”

★☆☆☆☆

written by dbibby88 on 29/05/2012

Went for a shopping spree to Leeds today because I hadn't been there before and wanted to go shopping somewhere new. I went in to the HMV store there and bought a PS3 game. Took it to the counter and got served by a young girl who was too busy giggling at her co worker. She took the payment off me and put the item in a bag. I spent the rest of the day shopping, not thinking to check what I'd bought. When I arrived home (which is in Wigan by the way). I checked the game so that I could quickly see what it was like, I peared in to the HMV bag and picked up the game, 'a bit light', I thought. I opened the case and suprise, suprise, the girl behind the counter had left my game on the counter BACK IN LEEDS. My common sense told me that If I went in to the HMV chain in Wigan they'd easily be able to give me a copy of the game from their store. So back off I drove again, I rushed in to the town centre, paying for parking AGAIN, got to the store and was met by some bloke who I could see eyeing the reciept in my hand. I told him I'd been shopping in Leeds and bought the game in Leeds, his instant reaction was, and I quote "We can't replace it with a game from this store, because we'd be a game down"?????? What about me? I was now £20 down and all I had to show for it was an empty game case. So I drove home and rang the HMV in Leeds to be greeted by some bloke who was also unhelpful, I had to argue the case that It wasn't my fault that I hadn't got the game. I even asked him to check stock and he reluctantly did it after the 4th time of asking. I asked to speak to the manager, who suprisingly wasn't there. After checking the stock, he told me they were a copy up, but suprise, suprise again, they wouldn't send it to me, although I now officially own the damn thing, without the managers permission. I am waiting for the manager to ring me tomorrow morning. The more stupid thing about it, it was a Birthday present for my nephew, which is actually tomorrow. So thank HMV, I bet he'll love opening his empty game case, I can see his tears now.

Other than the shop being a little untidy, the visit was excellent and the products are very good with decent prices. A good role model for your company

“Queuing to give you money - staff the checkout ”

★★★☆☆

written by scottrussell on 10/01/2012

I read constantly about HMV and their diminsing turnover and profits however, the past 2 times I have visited an HMV store I have been in a large queue waiting to pay and on both occasions, along with other people in the queue just left the items and walked out of the shop. The reason, whilst behind the tills are a number of staff only 1 or 2 are actually taking money the other student type staff seem to be busying them selves tidying or labelling or anything other than serving. I am no Bill Gates but surely if there are people queueing to give you money you should have your staff available to take their money. Both times I left the items in the shop and walked out I had £50 and £30 worth of products sales respectively.
