“Annual renewal of motorcycle insurance”

★★★★☆

written by GSBrit22 on 07/04/2016

After purchasing a new motorbike and looking at my regular comparison website I stuck with the same company I had for the previous few years, Devitt Insurance. Their's wasn't the cheapest quote but I hadn't any complaints and I thought I would stay with them as I believe in brand loyalty if you get good service. The quote wasn't too bad either for a brand new bike and the excesses were the lowest of all quotes which is aways a good thing. So all was good. I then had to call their help-line as I still had a few weeks left on my present bike insurance and needed to carry over my NCD to the new bike. That will be £55 please! So this became a catch-22 situation. Can't carry over my NCD to a bike I was picking up in a few days time unless I paid what I believe to be an unfair charge, especially as I must have still had some equity in my old policy although probably not £55's worth. This seems to be the norm in the insurance industry, which penalises loyal customers who wish to stay with their insurance company, using the ubiquitous 'admin fees'. I stated that being a loyal customer, I thought it unfair that we are penalised for staying with the same insurers. I was put on hold and when the customer/sales person came back they agreed to waive the charge and so all was right with the world. I understand there must be some admin costs incurred when changing policies or making amendments but can they be that high and what appears to be a set amount. I was also ask for a copy of my plastic driving licence which I duly scanned and sent off to them via e-mail. I then received an e-mail and letter (no wonder their admin charges are so high) requesting a DVLA code. They didn't ask for this at the time of my telephone conversation so I then had to log in to the DVLA site and obtain a code to then send to Devitt so they could check for points on my licence. The system seems a little protracted and crerates its own hiccuops but with a little more forthought and customer loyalty this could be an easier process. I've been with Devitts for a number of years and had some good benefits, including road side recovery and hope to stay with them for much longer, but the Admin process should be a lot easier and ALL the information required should be asked at the start of the process. I'd recommend them to all my biking friends without hesitation.
