We've had quite a good experience with Nationwide but also we have had a fantastic broker working his magic for us. We submitted our full application on Wednesday 15th August and received offer yesterday Monday 10th September. So we can't really complain but as I said earlier our broker has really been very helpful so overall not a bad experience...now to deal with the solicitor!

It annoys me that the only decent reviews for Nationwide are from people that havent actually completed yet... Everybody reports that they have a great initial service from Nationwide and receive a quick mortgage agreement, however, when it gets later down the line with them such as the exchange of contracts stage that problems occur and they make your life a living hell.
Take it from experience, a formal mortgage offer from Nationwide is not worth the paper it is written on no matter how quickly they issue it... They can and WILL withdraw their offer at any stage up to, and including the day of completion for any inane reason they like... AVOID THIS LENDER LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!!

UPDATE - actually we exchanged contracts on Friday 28th September and all monies were transfered without issue and now happily live in our new house paying our mortgage to Nationwide who we haven't had a problem with. Each to their own and all and everyone's entitled to their opinion but our opinion is that they are a good lender from our dealings with them.

2 weeks from a formal offer to completion?? That's just unheard of, plus if a solicitor took 2 weeks to do everything then the lender most definitely would have a reason to be suspicious... It's taken me and my heavily pregnant girlfriend 5 months of sleepless nights, constant stress a financially crippling 20% deposit (as nationwide keep asking for more) and they are still no closer to releasing the funds or allowing us to complete yet both solicitors have been ready to exchange contracts for week... Read 99.9% of the other reviews, you got extremely lucky, that's all.
