We have banked with First Direct for 15 years, 5 years ago we took out a mortgage with them, in October of last year we went onto a Fixed Rate we didn't have a problem. My husband earns £93,000 a year plus OTE of £160,000 we have a £315,000 mortgage and wanted to buy a smaller house to renovate. Our new mortgage would be £280,000 they would only lend us £60,000 as my husband is 60. We have money in a pension which would pay the mortgage off when he retires but they wouldn't give us a mortgage. We are now looking around and will be moving our bank account as well. Absolutely disgusted with them.
