The phone was Samsung Galaxy S3 locked to Vodafone Ireland.After asking around I realized it was almost impossible and expensive to get it unlocked.The code arrived an hour and a half later and the phone would have been unlocked there and then if I had red the screen properly and realized that the new network was looking for a code too.I emailed the guys and a few e-mails and a call later everything was sorted.
