Unlock service that works

For BlackBerry phone prior-BB10 it was important to find MEP code first so proper unlock code then can be generated (based on MEP and IEMI). Free Unlocks guided me through the procedure of getting MEP code for my device at no extra cost. It's based on PIN, application version and device uptime (all on Help Me screen, Alt+Shift+H). After that unlock code resolved based on pair IEMI and MEP.

There are several grades of unlock code - 1 to 4. Generally 1 is for SIM, 2 - NCK, 3 - Subset, 4 - Provider and the last one (Provider) worked in my case (BB9780 Telus). It's easy to determine which one to use - from Options\Device\Advanced System Settings\SIM card menu by subsequently typing MEPD first and then MEP+Alt(1-4) until prompt for the actual code will occur (note what number you types from 1 to 4 then pick the corresponding code provided by email). Free Unlocks provided all 4 unlock codes, but the only one is actually needed. As number of attempts is limited to 10 it is essential to use the right one.

Alternatively unlock codes can be entered from the unlock SIM prompt after device reboot. Codes 1 to 4 can be tried in sequence until the right one is accepted.
