Fairly painless process ending in desired outcome: Unlocked phones!
Steps should be described with more clarity, i.e., you enter info online but receive codes via e-mail in separate back-and-forth steps:
1) First you go online and put in your phone model and pay via PayPal.
2) Soon you get an e-mail with a password.
3) You go online again to enter your IMEI number and the freeUNLOCKS screen tells you something like "Waiting to be completed." What that really means is that you should wait for another e-mail containing the unlock code.
4) When you get the e-mail with the unlock code several hours later , fire up the locked phone with another carrier's SIM card in it and enter the code as prompted.
Result: You get your phone unlocked for $12 and a few minutes of your time. It would have taken me more than $12 worth of my time to discover a better solution, if there is one. (AT&T said they couldn't give me unlock codes for a prepaid Huawei GoPhone even 6 months after I bought it.)
I was glad that freeUNLOCKS offered a trustworthy solution that converted what would have been paperweights into useful phones in a country (Nicaragua) where AT&T does not do business.
