“They repaired a phone badly, it lasted 6 months and...”

written by Jamin2301 on 24/07/2023

They repaired a phone badly, it lasted 6 months and stopped working. when taking it back into them, they said they only guarantee their work for 90 days. So would have to pay another £80. We took it somewhere else, who advise the screen had been put on badly and repaired it for £30. The staff was extremely rude and clearly incompetent.

“Would not recommend ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by AT253 on 22/05/2020

The repair was completed in good time and social distancing measures were followed however shortly after my family members informed me of issues with my microphone. I had got back in contact with BuzzBox via email and stated the issues I was experiencing. They have since then being last month not got back to me. Shortly after that i started experiencing issues with my speaker to which there is no option at all to use either speaker on the phone. This is a poor level of customer service and I would advise customers to think twice before using their repair store. I would suggest you pay the extra amount and have it repaired by Apple or an authorised repair store.

“Unprofessional ”

Called in at 9 o'clock to ask if they could unlock a Samsung galaxy s4. The guy behind the counter took all the relevant information and told me they could indeed unlock it. Told me to leave it with them and it would be ready in 2 to 3 hours, Excellent!! I thought. 2 and a half hours later I called back to collect my unlocked phone only to be told the engineer hadn't turned up for work. I asked for my phone back as I needed it. I phoned again after lunch to enquire if the engineer had eventually turned up. He had!! Excellent,I thought,so I returned with my phone. Only one hour to unlock it this time, even better! An hour later I returned to collect my unlocked phone only to be told they can't unlock it after all. They don't have the relevant software apparently. But it'd a Samsung galaxy s4??? Probably one of the most common photos around??? Nope sorry, total waste of a day

“Cheap and nasty ”

★★☆☆☆

written by 1983O'Connell on 07/08/2016

A very expensive and what I believe to be overpriced for the actual service and product received. It seems like they use the cheapest products and way of repairing. Definitely would not recommend this place unfortunately. Shame, one woman working there was actually very kind and helpful but I didn't pay a large some to have a nice chat. I thought going here would get me a quality repair when in actual fact it's double the price of anywhere else but nowhere near as good. Not happy!

“Disgusting Service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Cecelial219 on 17/04/2016

DO NOT GO TO THIS SHOP FOR ANYTHING. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING SERVICE. I took my phone into buzzbox southend as it was water damaged and they was confident that it would be fixed and it would be £29.99. If it was not successful it would be £19.99 to collect. They phoned a few days later to say that it was successful but they had broken my screen so it didn't work therefore it wasn't successful which is no fault of mine so they wanted me to pay £85 for them to fix it which I wasn't going to pay, I was going to take it somewhere else. The lady on the phone said it would be £19.99 as they broke the screen. I went to collect the phone a few days after the call and they said it was not ready and said that it was my own fault for not phoning In even though they had already phoned to say that it was ready to collect within the next 30 days. I had to wait 30 minutes for them to fix it back together, I went to pay and she told me £29.99 which on the phone she said £19.99 when I questioned her she was very rude and defensive. I left the shop to go and get some more money as I needed my device, I phoned up whilst I was out to say that their charging me for a service they haven't fulfilled. The lady was shouting at me through the phone saying that they will now have to take the screen off that they have fixed on when on the phone before I told them not to put a screen on because I was not going to pay for their mistake. She then said that I had lied because I never spoke to her on the phone when I have my call history to show that I spoke to her for 6 minutes. She was not having any of it and was so rude and arrogant. I asked for a signed piece of paper to say when I fix the screen the phone will work because there is no other problems with it and she refused to give that to me. So I wasn't guaranteed that it was successful. I had no other option but to pay the £29.99 because I needed my device. Once I had paid she started to talk to her engineer about me with words such as "ridiculous" and "pathetic. When I was paying she was throwing the card machine around and slapping all of the paper work on the desk and raising her voice at me so I paid and left and have also taken this matter to the trading standards company. DO NOT GO TO THIS SHOP FOR ANYTHING. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING SERVICE.

“Repair Streak 5 not possible, full postage refund”

★★★★☆

written by Dinant on 18/07/2015

I contacted Buzz Box to arrange repair of my Dell Streak 5, where the charger port was damaged and needed to be replaced. After a short phone call I placed my repair online, and send the package to them using Royal Mail Guaranteed Delivery (as recommended by Buzz Box). The next day I first received an email confirming that the device had arrived, and confirming the physical conditions of the device. Than unfortunately I received another email about half an hour later, stating that after repair the defect was likely to reoccur, and that they could not provide a warranty on the repair. They then offered to either return the device without repair, and refund my postage costs, or to go ahead with the repair without warranty. I then contacted another repair company, who were happy to do the repair, and provide a 90 days warranty. I therefore asked Buzz Box to send back my phone and refund the money. They said they edit their website to accept this kind of repair in the future. I received the phone back 3 days after I send it, and received the refund as well on that day later. A reliable company, to bad they could not offer warranty on the repair, but good that they were honest about this.

“Rude Incapable ”

written by ppMadden143 on 19/01/2015

The qualtiy of service recieved from this shop is diabolical. I paid for my phone to be unlocked two months ago. After countless trips to the shop, being told they had at first lost my phone and then that it will "work tomorrow". I have tired over and over to establish why the serivce I have paid for isnt working. Today I went to recieve a refund and was told by the rude unprofessional staff member that I needed my recipt. Instead I had my reference number, to which I was told that wouldnt suffice as they have no records older than one month. The staff member hid behind 101 ecuses as to why he couldnt help me. And was in general conveyed himself in a repulsive, unhelpful and arogant way. I will be returning tomorrow with the recipt. If I havent updated I will have recieved my refund

“Buzz box iPhone 5S fix review”

★★☆☆☆

written by Anabelleh1949 on 05/11/2014

I have taken my iPhone 5S to buzz box twice now, both times for a new screen and both times the seal on the screen has come loose, causing my screen to only be half attached to the body of the phone. I have now taken to my phone to apple, and the extra £9 was worth it, at least I know my phone will stay a useable standard.

“Excellent service”

★★★★★

written by on 15/01/2014

Buzz Box is excellent. I posted my phone for repair as the screen was going blank. I really love my phone so I was very pleased that this service was available (in our ever increasing throwaway society). The repair turned out to be slightly different from what we had originally thought but this just goes to show they do a very thorough job and check everything on the phone before proceeding which is really good. The communication was very professional by telephone and with emails to update you of the progress from the time your phone is received by Buzz Box to when it is being posted back to you. I found it to be a very efficient service and I would not hesitate to recommend them.

Item sent for repair. All communication with this company has been one way. I have no idea if they really exist or not. Messages unanswered, emails ignored. At the beginning I was impressed with the setup. Not now. I think that I have to except that my item will never be seen again. If your reading this please, please don't use them. And Buzz Box if your reading this all I want to say is thanks for nothing

“Broken notebook screen”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Chez1234 on 06/12/2013

I took my notebook in because the screen was cracked. It worked very well before, it came back running very slow (now take over a min to open up a page). Why is it slow? all it had was a cracked screen no need to mess with it's software and/or hardware. Regret using them, will never use them again. I will just have to write this up as a lesson learnt and buy a new notebook when I can.

Unfortunately I can't confirm this (with out your job number) but it would be extremely unusual to change any windows setting when replacing a screen. As its a case of removing the old screen and fitting a new and then running basic testing etc.

If your laptop is running slow I would take the following steps.

1. Ensure your virus/spyware/malware software is up to date.
2. Make sure the drive is fully defragged (system tools etc).

If its just the internet running slow .
I would restart the router and if your running on wifi check that they are no other wifi networks in your area running on the same channel. A easy way to check if their is wifi congestion is plug the laptop directly into the router.

I'm sorry that in this instance you are unhappy with the service from Buzz Box - and please let me know if you have any further questions on your repair.

“htc one water damage”

★☆☆☆☆

written by bigbadbob on 19/08/2013

I dropped my phone in some water for 30 seconds and it wouldn't power up, i found this web site buzz box and their claim of 70% success rate. i dispatched it to them and found their customer service lacking in as much as lack of contact and having to ring them for updates on the condition, even after the engineer had made his initial report after the first day which was the lcd digitizer they then ordered that part and 4 days after i rang again only to be told it was beyond economical repair. i dont understand that. but i have now bought a new phone so here ends a very expensive lesson. i now have a water proof bag for my phone. lesson learnt.

I'm sorry in this case it wasn't possible to repair your phone, as you mention we currently have a 70% success rate on water damaged phones and unfortunately in this instance your phone was one of the unlucky ones.

The process for repairing a liquid damaged phone is to first put the mother board though the ultrasonic bath and then reflow. Then handset is then powered up connecting it to the LCD/battery etc.. It was at this point the engineer reported the screen was faulty however he also thought that the phone may be still repairable (and you where quoted for the screen) once the new screen was fitted to the phone it was found found that the phone was in fact unrepairable - the delay in getting back to you at this point was due to the engineers repeated attempts to try and repair your phone.

Regarding the customer service Issues you mentioned we are currently reviewing our customer services procedure to ensure customers are kept up to date. But its worth also mentioning that your able to get the status of your repair via our IVR telephone system and our customer case site.

“Brilliant Service”

written by MatthewB138 on 26/06/2013

I recently broke the screen on my iPhone 5, I took it in to Buzz Box and was quoted a lot cheaper than any other shop in the area. I also got the chance to have a quicker service for only £5 more. This was a same day service, and I was amazed when they called me an hour later to say it was ready. When I got it back it was as good as new, everything worked perfectly. I would definitely recommend this shop to anyone. Thank you Buzz Box, you're amazing

They told me it would be 5 days until they had the screen in As it was a new model, which was understandable as I only had it a week From release date and dropped it on the kitchen tiles. Doh.... On the 5th day I had Another email saying that my phone was ready for payment. Excellent news. The Next day I had it and it looked like new. Can't thank you enough. Thank you Buzz Boxx staff for keeping me informed on the process of my repair and getting it Back to me so quickly.

I had my ipad mini repaired here it was admittedly battered and was told the touch part probably wouldnt sit flush however after a couple days my ipad was ready and to my surprise it was flush and looked like new again (bar the dents and scratches that had occured when I dropped it) would certainly advise people to go there despite the other reviews on here as the service and quality that I had received was perfect

“A very bad experience”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 14/04/2013

Very similar to the iphone story. i foolishly broke the sim card reader on my galaxy note trying to use a micro sim with adaptor (do not try it). all other functions were fine, it had effectively become a small tablet. buzzbox advertise average 4 day turnaround and gave a reasonable quote of about £50 so i sent it off. a week of silence went by, a telephone call told me it was 'in queue'. more calls told me the engineer was working on it. and working on it. and working on it. apparently he couldn't get it to read a sim, suspected a fault with the the mother board. alarm bells rang violently so i eventually forced a no charge return but apparently there was now a fault with a flickering screen display. this they tried to say was existing until i pointed out their own check in report made no reference to this. then the small print was wheeled out, 'we do not accept liability for damage to items in attempted repair'. the phone was eventually returned with a claim of reliable display function, although it was absolutely filthy on receipt. i soon discovered why when the display flickered and disappeared after 15 mins. this ever decreasing period of function was enough to discover that the sd card reader no longer worked either. the display is now completely dead. i then asked for a new phone on the grounds that buzzbox had turned a straightforward repair into an irrepairable disaster. then, astonishingly, they suggested i return the phone so that they could try and repair it 'without time constraints', bearing in mind the whole fiasco had already taken 3 working weeks. when i said no, they offered £25 compensation. currently i have bought a new phone and started a small claims case.

9 times out of 10 a fault on a handset is exactly as described by our customer but occasionally other faults are spotted during repair that maybe were not there before or went unnoticed. When this happens, we will attempt to repair it at no extra charge. This was the case with this repair. Unfortunately a straight forward sim reader replacement did not fix the fault. The part used was tested on another handset and worked fine. There was also a flickering of the screen. The fact the the sim could not be read after having changed the sim reader 3 times, suggests that the fault is on the board. A board fault repair includes a reflow of the motherboard and is not always successful and it wasn't in this case. The screen flicker was fixed though and we carried out our quality assurance testing and the handset passed them all (loudspeaker, wi-fi, charging etc.) apart from those that would need the sim card and so the handset was classed as beyond repair and we returned it to the customer at no charge. We originally received this handset on the 11th March and dispatched it on the 23rd. 12 days is much longer than our average turnaround and we apologise again to our customer for this. In our defense I can only say that the technician who carried this repair spent many many hours in attempted repair mainly because it posed a challenge. It was not a straight forward fix as most phone faults are and, although it is true that not every phone can be repaired in a reasonable time, we wouldn't class a phone as beyond economical repair lightly and may spend extra time on it to avoid doing so. I do understand that losing your phone for 2 weeks can be extremely inconvenient though. When the customer contacted us after receiving his handset and said that the screen was flickering (which sounded like the same fault that we informed the customer about during repair) of course we offered to look at this problem and hopefully fix it as although the phone was classed as beyond repair due to the sim reading fault, it may have still had some uses. The customer declined the offer and asked to be compensated for a new handset. Scene as the customer was obviously not happy, I thought an alternative option would be to buy the handset from the customer and offered £80, which for a galaxy n7000 that won't read a sim card was a very fair offer. That way the customer is at no loss and the technician could have as much time as he liked to try and repair. The customer refused to return the handset for further repair and refused to sell us the handset at that point obviously agitated. The customer suggested we pay £300 in compensation for a new handset. The handset sells for less than that brand new and so not thinking this was a fair option, I offered for the customer to keep the handset and £25 as good will, not as compensation. At this point the customer threatened court proceedings. Dear customer, I still believe that £80 is a fair offer for a faulty n7000 and the offer remains open. Please come back to me if you change your mind. For anyone else reading this, I would certainly be interested to hear what you think is a fair solution. We fix a couple of thousand devices per year and so I know not every single one of those is going to be plain sailing. I like to think that what defines us is not the problems that arise but the way we deal with them and so I invite the opinions of others on this matter. Many thanks, Lindsay

A very touching and eloquent piece from the director of Buzzbox. I have a certain respect and admiration for this young lady in her very maternal attempts to protect her baby. I wish she had been there at the start of this affair, i don't think it would have come to this. Unfortunately she came in after the damage. Despite the smoke and mirrors, i have proof that the unit went to Buzzbox with the single fault of a simcard reader and the grandchildren had been using it as an app pad quite happily. Buzzbox's own check in report makes no mention of other faults. When it first became apparent that something bad had happened, Buzzbox hid behind their small print by saying they accept no responsibility for damage or failure caused by their repair. When i said this was an unacceptable excuse from a company who's stated purpose was to repair, the director became involved and i believe was misinformed by her staff. Whatever. No sweetness or customer relations can cover the fact that buzzbox returned a filthy, broken phone. My claim is for the cost of a replacement phone, best online price for UK handset was £330 and as such is now in process through the Small Claims Tribunal. This is not an emotive 'threat' but a recognised way of settlement. What i will accept from Buzzbox is an open admission that mistakes can occur in the most perfect of organisations and the cost of my replacement phone, less their fair initial repair quote value of £54, = £276. Plus tribunal fee already paid, £35 = £311.
Or, see you in court.
