“GiffGaff "unlimited" data plan”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 06/03/2015

Hello. I was new to GiffGaff. I was looking for a plan that would allow me unlimited data. I am currently a Three user and paying £15/month for unlimited data. Lately, I've been having problems with Three and decided to GiffGaff's goody bag a try. I chose the £18/month with unlimited data.

What I didn't realize was that I unlimited data was restricted to the device that's using the sim card. Unfortunately, this plan does not allow tethering to another device, whereas Three does.

I've tried to tether to my laptop as I am not able to access internet in the building in which I live. A few times, I've received messages from GiffGaff that my internet would be suspended for 30 minutes as a punishment for tethering.

Today, I received a message that I would no longer be able to purchase their unlimited goody back because I've violated their terms and conditions.

I'm quite disappointed, as I use my laptop for my work and I need to tether to mobile broadband. GiffGaff has given me an option of purchasing one of their goody bags that limits me to 5 GB of data. I would go through this quite quickly as I download from Youtube in order to use in my presentations.

I also found out that I can never contact someone directly. GiffGaff always identifies itself as "The GiffGaff Team" or "GiffGaff Community". I'm usually very leery when I receive messages from anonymous persons or individuals who do not wish to identify themselves. I've become distrustful of GiffGaff

Luckily, I haven't cancelled my contract with Three. I will not be returning to GiffGaff and hope that their lifespan is a short one; or at least until they change their policies on tethering and unlimited broadband.

I may try a Virgin sim as they along with Three allow tethering.
