“Mobile Broadband monthly contact a rip off, stick to PAYG”

Written on: 01/08/2012

I have had 3 PAYG for many years. I decided to take out a monthly rolling contract because it offered me better value for money than PAYG and as I frequently travel abroad for extended periods, I could cancel it when I needed. However, having now cancelled after 6 months I realise I have been completely ripped off.
I couldn't cancel in the shop - had to phone an Indian call centre - took me 3 goes to get passed the call menu and speak to anyone.
Contract stated to give at least a months notice to cancel so I called 6 weeks in advance and was told my contact would be cancelled in 30 days but I would still have to pay the remainder of that month (2 weeks lost credit). Then when I checked they had actually reset my contract on the day that I phoned to leave only a month reamining (half my remaining credit wiped out).
The call centre rep kept saying he valued my custom and my money but kept me on call waiting many times while the cost racked up on my mobile, all the time offering me products that I had no interest in.
I sent an online complaint - no response - no surprise!
My advice - don't bother with a contract - stick to pay as you go.

I also had a three rolling contract. When I tried to use my mobile internet device on another laptop I was told it was obselete. Three never informed me of this and were happy to take the money from my direct debit. But the real nightmare was when I tried to cancel. I was on the phone for hours.
