My daughter lost her new iphone 4 in Dec 11, a month after getting it! and after I sent an appeal by email, a replacement turned up 2 days later with no warning!

It just so happened that the replacement went faulty a few weeks ago, the on/off button wouldn't work, but as I knew the iphone was less than a year old and still under the ‘Apple’ warranty, I headed to the store! It turns out that the on/off button is a manufacturing fault and once repaired it will continue to need repairing so the store were going to replace the phone with a new handset. After checking my replacement handset, they informed me it was 2 years old, it had wear and tear on the battery and that non apple components were present! This meant that there was nothing that they could do for me as the mobile had been refurbished/tampered with by a third party! I asked Apple if they could produce a report, which they did - very helpful.

To say I was angry was an understatement, so once home, I called lifestyle straight away. I informed them that by sending me a refurbished mobile that had not been refurbished by Apple, they had voided my warranty. Apparently Lifestyle provide a year's warranty on the mobiles they sent out! It doesn’t state that in their terms and conditions! After explaining my void warranty situation to ‘Customer Relations’ and demanding nothing but a new handset they stated as a good will gesture they were going to send me a brand new handset, upgraded to the iphone 4s as the iphone 4 is no longer produced!! Result!

I sent the phone off and was called today to discuss the cracked screen! Another verbal battle as the screen was irrelevant to the manufacturing fault, but once she called Apple and gained confirmation that they would have replaced the phone, she ordered my brand, spanking, shiny, new mobile!!

Having read all the reviews on here the other night, I was somewhat dismayed and set for a long battle, but nowhere on this site did I see any complaints about warranty! Perhaps if your mobile is under a year old, this may be the route you should take and not settle for a replacement mobile that your child could put together better with play dough!
