“Power Monkey Extreme”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 28/08/2012

I have just unpacked my Power Monkey Extreme that I got from PowerTraveller.com. I have swiped my finger according to the instructions but it does not turn on. The screen lights up in blue for a short moment, but I cannot get the 3 flashes. I've tried the double tap and swiping the other way with the same result. I've swiped hard, soft and tired different fingers. If I connect external power the screen turns red. If I connect my iPad/iPhone, nothing happens. After further testing it seems as most of the touch screen is not functional. Only around 30% of the touch area on the left side makes the screen light up. The rest of the 70% of the right side is non reactive. I have sent an email to the support, I have tweeted their @powermonkeys accout and I have tried calling them. I am very nervous since I bought the device for a trip that I am taking next weekend. :-(

Yey!

The support team called me up the same day and they are sending a replacement part.

(Name removed) gets a virtual flower from me --,-´-@

I am wondering if this is a reoccurring problem or not?
I found others with the same issue.

“Power Monkey Extreme - bit of a disappointment”

★★★☆☆

written by samsaidi on 02/10/2011

Bought this item to charge all my gadgets on a 3 week holiday to Oz. For the first 2 days it worked fine, then stopped suddenly. Unfortunately it is pretty heavy so I was left carrying around a brick. I contacted power monkey support but they were totally useless - it took them a week to respond and then all they did was ask if the problem was resolved. Thanks! The vendor (Lemon Digital on Ebay/Amazon) was also terrible when I asked for a replacement. I received no response at all and have had to pursue my refund through paypal. Having said that, if the device worked it would have been OK. Unfortunately I don't think the reliability is worth the risk, particularly when the support is so bad despite the high price tag.

Samsaidi's Response to samsaidi's Review

UPDATE:
Powermonkey support contacted me after I advised them of my review. They apologised about the poor level of support, and said that the particular member of staff had left the company. They also told me that the first batch of powermonkey extremes had an oversensitive switch bug which had now been resolved. As a gesture they have sent me a new powermonkey extreme free of charge. So powermonkey have redeemed themselves (thanks Emily at Powertraveller support).

Unfortunately the same could not be said of the vendor from whom I have had to seek a refund through a Paypal dispute.

“Solar Monkey solar charger”

★☆☆☆☆

written by LoneRanger on 06/07/2011

I used this product to try & recharge my iPod, exactly in accordance with the supplied instructions, and it killed the iPod! It seemed to "reverse charge" and suck the power out of the iPod's own. If there was a protection circuit to prevent this, it didn't work. In theory (and if it worked properly) the product would be a good gadget, but in my case it was just a very expensive mistake!
