My 1991 SWB 5-speed manual 2.0L carby Express worked enormously hard and drove faultlessly in both intense city traffic and highway trips (usually with heavy to over-loads) for 420,000km before the engine died. The original engine never blew a head gasket, never used coolant, and only used oil moderately even by the end of its life. Tyre and brake usage was phenomenally low once correctly set and serviced. My Mitsubishi L300 used oil at 7000km, had new rings at 9000km, all under warranty. It had a bad rattle in the rear that took months to find, leaf spring banging on something. The gearbox clunky and does not engage smoothly. It does have plenty of grunt and handles better than the early 90's models and is $15,000 cheaper than Toyota's Hiace but I say spend the extra, buy a ...

I have owned two Mitsubishi L300 vans, 2002 & 2004 models.
I do 72000 k a year on country roads and is a good test of a vehicle.
The 2002 model dropped a tooth in third gear at 55000 k then done a head in at 80000k all covered by warranty.
Had no more trouble and sold it at 125000k
The 2004 model had major gear box problems at 105000k.
Whilst out of warranty to be fair Mitsubishi covered cost of parts but the down side was the three weeks to get parts from Japan and ...
