On the outward bound trip to Amsterdam we went to the main lounge to enjoy the evening entertainment. We were met by over a hundred drunken yobs, jumping on chairs, singing football songs, swearing and out of control. We did a U turn and went in the sports bar next to it. The crew came past us carrying part of the roof after it was pulled down, groups were fighting each other, at one point the lady trying to present the entertainment was shouting on her microphone for more security. There were 2 door staff at the entrance to our bar checking passengers bags for drink who made no attempt to help even after I went over to them. Next morning as we queued in the stairwell waiting to dock two groups of males confronted each other over one of them being beaten up by the other group the night before, the situation was really volatile and disturbing topped off by a member of the crew just standing and watching them going at each other - no intervention. The return journey was no better, groups of males straight on the drink, the singer drowned out by the noise from them and fights breaking out as the night went on. The full experience summed up when we docked at North Shields to be boarded by the police and a number of males taken off under arrest. I submitted a written complaint to DFDS and got a bland reply stating they operate strict control on groups travelling (not by reading these reviews). Bottom line is these ferry trips thrive on stag do and football trips who spend loads of money drinking the bar dry not from reasonable professional people. Considering you can fly from Newcastle to Amsterdam with Easyjet for £25, be there in an hour and spend double the time in Amsterdam, I will not be using DFDS again.
