“What a miserable van!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by josephtang on 12/08/2014

I must say, LDV have done good jobs with their Pilot and Convoy Minibuses. But the maxus is an indescribable van. It is slow, the dashboard is all cramped into the middle, the seats are hard and uncomfortable, and worst of all, the quality is terrible! I have owned for two months and the side door has fallen off, and the front left door has been bent! The van looks ugly, and I have never experienced any van like this before. You should buy a Transit or a Convoy, NOT A MAXUS!

“I've had Transits & Merc Sprinters but this Maxus (95...”

★★★★★

I've had Transits & Merc Sprinters but this Maxus (95 3.5 XHR LWB)is the best van I've ever had. It's very economical - loaded with £80k of lighting and pa equipment 100% of the time it returns 35mpg for a speed of 70+ round town 30+ mpg. Power is really good - reliability better than all my previous vans it has been spot on for 4 years! I prefer the console in the middle of the dash - it's more practical, good storage in the dash.

The only thing you have to watch is that the contacts on the sliding door for the locking are kept clean, the keyfobs are very good and cheap to replace and program.

Bodywork is good and stays that way.

Only 1 bad point - Lack of technical info ie: no service guides Haynes etc are available which to be honest isn't LDV's fault is it?

Would I buy another? YES I have four ALL have been 100%

Never had main dealer service on any of my vans, do my own - last four years on four vans they have had in total 16 oil changes (1 Per Year) that's it! nothing else all are like they were when bought perfect.

Shame that LDV is no more - Nice vans 10/10

“Centre console better for night driving doesn't glare...”

Centre console better for night driving doesn't glare at you and you can have your sat nav right in your line of vision. Cheap to buy mine was 8 grand at 2 years old with 25k on the clock and 1 year of warranty.
Not bad on fuel driven reasonably about 30 to the gallon delivering parcels in rural Cornwall, very quiet in cab and good ride.
Has Mercedes engine the same as fitted to the Chrysler Voyager, shame it didn't have the auto gearbox as well.
20k between services. Overall I was pleased with mine and now I have finished using it as a parcel van I am converting it to a campervan it is 3 years old and only got 50k on now.

“I buy a new van every 2 to 3 years. After owning 3...”

I buy a new van every 2 to 3 years. After owning 3 Ford Transits, 1 Vauxhall Movano and 2 Fiat Ducatos, I decided to buy the all new van of the year: the LDV Maxus. Well, it's the worst van i have ever owned. It is a 06 reg which makes it now 17 months old. My first bit of trouble was the engine started making a funny noise when the aircon came on , then the van stopped locking so i booked it in where i brought it from .they rang me about 4 hour after i dropped it of to tell me that i needed a new pump on the aircon & there was nothing wrong with the locks, they had it for 3 days & reluctently let me use the demonstrator as long as i insured it myself, which cost me £ 120 . Since then the air con as been ok , the van still doesent lock , the radiator filler bottle dropped of , the cup holder dropped of , the plastic wheel arch cover dropped of , the lock on the back doors dropped of , the weld on the spare wheel holder broke so that dropped of , the battery cover dropped of , the drivers side electric window stopped working , if you shut the first door on the rear of the van & forget ot push handle in before you shut the second door your in big trouble ,ive got the big dent in the back door to prove it .i have put all these thing right myself as i have gone along because i cannot afford to be without a van or the £ 120 pound insurance to borrow there van . my friends have suggested it would be alright for multi drops - never again. Just waiting now for my 2 1\2 years to be so i can part ex it for a tenner & get a transit.
