Only one foil and no longer hair remover? Yes it is cheap but a bit old fashioned compared with most modern shavers - going on past experience with Braun, I don't think I will bother.

“Got an electric shave? Well I do”

★★★★★

written by ddunk on 30/05/2014

I got a new Braun Smart Control 130 to try out from Braun. When I first got it I was a little disappointed because it was not rechargeable. The it hit me I was using an old disposable razor and it was not rechargeable either so I got over that one quick.

I knew with the Memorial Day weekend coming up I would not have a lot of time to shave. My wife hates it when I am all stubbly, she says it hurts. So with the busy weekend I used the Braun 130 shaver, I never heard any complaints from here about my stubble.

The first couple of times using it I had to get used to it but it didn't take much to get used to it. All in all looks like I have found my new shaver I will be using from here on out. Thanks Braun for such a great product.

“Poor deals for the customer from Braun P + G, on shavers.”

★★★☆☆

written by caveatemptor1955 on 21/07/2012

The Braun P + G electric shaver, model 130, series 1 cost £40.00 in 2011. Which is clearly quite a lot for a product which is not especially good quality. I.E. is not very powerful, and takes quite a long time to fulfil the purpose for which it is (allegedly) intended. I have experienced that it is not particularly quiet in use. And there is an issue with the beard trimmer faciity: which is integral to the appliance and cannot be removed to change it, when it wears out. Braun P + G spoke vaguely, (somewhat duplicitously) and unconvincingly about it being designed to last the life of the appliance (Whatever that means). But could be returned to the factory, to be renewed. At your expense, of course. Though the product is quite well designed, ergonomically. The main problem with it is a built-in design defect affecting the power cord socket. There is no positive device to hold it in. Consequently it regularly slips out during use. Obviously over time this insecurity issue will worsen. And appears to be a health and safety issue; which Braun P + G when contacted spoke in dispute, and denial of... Clearly a matter of built in obsolescence; as one finds in the case with many electrical products, in these days of "hard" capitalism... The main bugbear is with Braun P + G, which is a take-over from Braun, by soap powder giant Proctor and Gamble. The model 130, series 1 (type 5863) uses (parts 11 B) shaver foil and cutter block replacement sets. Which initially were unavailable to order over the counter, at Boots Alliance stores. It took a lot of lobbying of Braun P + G to alter this prejudicial situation. From a mandatory requirement to ring Braun P + Gs preimium rate product ordering helpline... Unlike pre-takeover Braun (Germany), Braun P + G supply the foil and cutter block together; and similarly dispute, and deny the fact that these parts do not wear out together. Braun P&G dictate that these replacement parts are supplied together, at a current cost of some £23.75 pence. This practice appears to be one of raising a charge to supply an item which is not needed; and which one does not wish to pay for. At least until one has to... Also state in public information product information, that the shaver foil will last up to 18 months. But that is rather misleadingly optimistic... Around 12 months would be nearer the mark. And I have had one that lasted only about 10 months. But tough luck. Braun P + G come out with a lot of spiel about it all depends on the way you use the shaver; the courseness of your stubble; and how often you use it... This is clearly a matter of caveat emptor. Look around for better products; and value for your money... This product is available from specialist high street electrical retailers. Eg: Tesco; Boots Alliance Chemists. Along with other better products...
