“Hitting back at the 807 malcontents”

★★★★★

written by 1950Jamison on 30/05/2014

I have owned two Peugeot 807 2Lt HDI executives bought from new. .The first in 2004 the second in 2007 - which is my current car. Over the past ten years I have not had a single problem or cause for concern. I have always had the cars serviced at the main-dealership from whom they were bought. They have taken my wife and I all over Europe with a packed boot and a1550 kgs caravan trundling behind. The outfit has taken on the Alps and Pyrennes on twenty occasions and never once given me the slightest reason for concern although I must confess that at altitude and on some long steep inclines my speed did drop into the 40-45 mph range. Driven solo it averaged 50 -55mpg on long trips and 25mpg towing. They have been a pleasure to own and to drive. Apart from reasonable service costs I have replaced only tyres and, on my current vehicle - now seven and a half years old ,the brake-pads. If Peugeot still made them I would not hesitate to buy another new one. If I had to find fault with something both my wife and I agree that the speedometer dial was difficult to read in some daylight conditions . My wife and I have just test-driven a Peugeot 5008 - essentially the 807's replacement - a pleasant enough car but one which could not match what we have experienced with our 807s.

“Peugeot 807 2.2 HDI”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Herblay on 19/12/2011

Please, please, please do not buy, regardless however cheap they appear to be. Even if they have full main dealer service history which mine does, this counts for nothing. The electrical problems are minor compared to the problems the 2.2 HDI diesel engine will throw up. Even Peugeot mechanics admit that the engine is too complicated and very unreliable. My Peugeot garage openly admits that the 807 is the worse car they have made to date. Like almost every owner, you will experience cambelt problems (do catch them early), particulate filter problems, turbo problems, egr valve problems ~ all of which required replacement at incredible cost. My car has done fewer than 80K so I wouldn't say its had a particularly hard life. However, if you look at the forums, 80K is about the limit for these engines even if they are well maintained. Engine access is a real issue for the turbo and egr valve replacement as it is positioned somewhere under the radio! I currently have an intermittent acceleration problem which is proving very hard for the garage to locate. As soon as I get this fixed, I am selling.

My Peugeot 807 has had endless electrical problems - right from the start. Cam belt went at 62k but Peugeot did cover the cost ( Thanks to Wokingham Motors who are great) even though out of warranty. Tyre sensors break down after 70k and are £120 to replace.( Valves start to leak) Now the last straw, one of the rear seats got jammed in the runners and it had to broken out. £1100 for a new one! Intermittent computer problems - software issues that could not be overcome. Wipers kept blowing fuses - I ended up putting a larger fuse in to overcome. Sliding doors were tempramental as well.

The 2 litre Diesel is very underpowered. Great shame, as it is a great design internally and has some great features.

Would never buy a Peugeot again though, as I hear they have a reputation for electrical issues - and I have first hand experience.

written by on 04/03/2010

Beware. The diesel engine anti pollution system is very complicated. There is an additive tank and pump system that meters additive to the fuel tank based on sensing the fuel cap on/off and fuel volume! It needs an additive tank to be filled eventually but in my case prematurely due to the lousy engine management computer giving false info.
Cables that release seats have worn out on two rear seats.
Now the final straw the timing belt went at 64k. Engine knackered and it cost £500 to find that out. Replacement/repair cost is more than value of vehicle.
Shame it was great to drive, comfortable and spacious - would I buy another one - no way. Steer clear.

We liked the car's space and toys etc., but quickly realised why the previous owner had sold it at 18 months from new.

This has been the most unreliable car I have ever experienced. Something goes wrong in this car every month. We even left a set of keys with the dealer it spends sp much time there. It feels like the entire car has been replaced one bit at a time, but even so it still keeps breaking. Spending around £3k per annum on repairs, now it's off warranty. Have finally traded in the car - hope the dealer doesn't go bust without our repair income!

i have owned this car for only 3 months and have endless problems with the particale filter.the car is never out of limp mode the faults on the display are antipollution fault diesel filter blocked.i have done allsorts to this car even when i smashed the particle filter outto determine if it was actually the filter it still came up with particle filter full.this is where i have found my saviour http://www.ecuflash.co.uk/ this company will deactivate all the anti pollution gubbins the car will not go in limp mode again and to top it up he even remaps the car so it has more power and better on fuel.so if you are the same as me get it done smash the filter out and get this lot in you will never look back.

written by Super ma on 07/01/2010

Loved this car at first, so easy having sliding doors. However computer started going wrong and Peugeot could not fix - they did not have the right software!! Now the cam belt has failed at 77K Change recommended at 96k. Am reading so many problems with premature cam belt failure on the 2004-6 model as engine housing open to elements. Local dealer in Banbury does not want to know. We are pursuing under the SOGA and will see what happens. Beware!

Interested in your post , I have had my latest 807 2.2 HDi for about 6 years, my cam belt first went at a similar mileage to yours i.e. 78 k that was 2 years ago. Peugeot at Bristol Street Banbury did fix it at their cost. 2 years and only 56k later the cam belt has gone again requiring a new engine. This time Peugeot don't want to know offering me a pittance against a ' new peugeot ' . Not happy and will be speaking to trading standards

Thanks

We had a Fiat Ulyses for 5 years and it was brill. We came to change and couldn't find a new shape fiat so opted for the 807 thinking it couldn't be much different. Bought the Executive for the toys - electric doors, seats etc. We've had it 12 months now and it's a heap of junk - just had to replace a bulb - £93.00!! Doors failed to open, alarm goes off when you're driving, all windows dropped on the motorway at 70!! Warning lights come on and then off, doors lock and refuse to open, it beeps for no apparent reason and now the turbo has failed - still it has done 36,000 miles! Dealer just laughs and quotes hundreds of pounds to not fix it! Been in to have electrical faults rectified 9 times now - works for 1-3 days and then starts again. I wouldn't have another of these if they were free!

We have bought a Peugeot 807 in 2004 in Sweden and after a few months it was already in for problems: antipollution faults and oil pressure insufficient. We have been in and out and spent a lot of money and time. Two weeks ago the motor has failed and we have to spend 6000 euro to fix it: the value of the car.

written by janephys3 on 12/12/2008

We bought a 406 which was pretty good for about 3 years so then bought a Peugeot 807... big mistake. The 807 was trouble from the day we brought it home and the 406 started playing up soon after. Both refuse to rev above 3000rpm with huge loss of power. Today I have driven up a hill in Richmond at 10mph and travelled 10 miles along the motorway at 45mph and that is top speed!
The worst car I have ever had the misfortune to own. I am stuck with them both as they are unsellable and I can't afford to simply go and buy another! The 807 has now packed up completely (on the A1 at 11.30pm when I had three 6 year olds with me! Oh yes and the temp was -2 and it decided to open all its windows and refuse to shut them again!) it is parked up with sheet over it, a useless pile of scrap.

“The Peugeot 807 is a nice car to drive but it is badly...”

★★☆☆☆

written by angelsey on 11/08/2008

The Peugeot 807 is a nice car to drive but it is badly let down by shakey electronics and an extremely poor engine fault warning system. Although reliable enough, one always has the feeling it is going to break down or bleep a fault at you. The car could have been stellar, if only more time had been spent sorting out the electrics. The faults are relatively small and there is nothing to complain about the drive, but the small problems have the ability to annoy and frustrate beyond measure. There is a mini cab drivers avoid the 807. I will not be owning mine for much longer. Buy a Previa instead. Three words - 'anti pollution fault'. This is a major problem as (a) it does off all the time and (b) it does not actually tell you what is wrong with the car. I have had it eight times in 18 months and the problems have ranged from nothing to a new turbo seal. I have also been told by my dealer that it is not suitable for inner city life (school runs etc) and that it needs regular basts on the motorway to avoid anti pollution fault problems. Given that the vast majority of people use it for depositing their offspring at the school gates one has to wonder why this problem was not engineered out of the production version. I have has four months of no antil pollution fault - so my fingers remain firmly crossed. However I find myself worrying I am going to end up on the side of the road everytime I turn the ignition key, and that is unacceptable in a modern car - particularly one that is full of kids. The hand brake is perhaps the worst of any modern car. I am quite tall and find myself having to perform a painful yoga routine everytime it is used.
You will also have to disable the alarm (which thankfully is easy) because it goes off for no reason, all the time. The electronic doors on my car have been faultless, but the seats have fits every now and then and 'adjust' without any prompting from me.

Not too bad on fuel consumption compared to other MPVs. We had a high spec executive model and still had loads of problems with it. alarms having a mind of their own. tyre pressure markers falling off so therefore leaving you with permanent flashing warnings. Now anti-pollution fault which is really expensive to fix. We are fixing it up and selling it on.

Dealer fobbed me off with pathetic excuses. Eventually after 2.5 years and ruined life/holidays dealer agreed to "a deal" on another Peugeot 807 on basis that this may have been a bad car! One of my biggest mistakes ever! Now 2 years into ownership it was towed to garage with multiple electrical faults which RAC suggested due to dampness in electronics. After only 2 years ? Awaiting further excuses but ready for them this time. May take it to "The Judge" in the mail if no satisfaction. I can't keep on losing money like this and having my life disrupted REPEATEDLY. Will never buy Peugeot again.

written by ali123 on 03/08/2007

Today was to be the third attempt at us trying to get the faulty gearbox problem in our Peugeot 807 fixed. Intermittently a warning comes up and it says faulty gearbox, warning light stays on.
Twice previously has been in dealers and seems resolved till next time. Today my husband was told that they cant fix it for 7 weeks as they are waiting on a software download programme being made up by Peugeot to rectify the problem. Have tried Peugeot Customer Care was told we couldn't speak to a Line Manager and it would take till Tuesday at 5pm being the earliest before they could get back to us, as they need to build a case to see if we are entitled to a courtesy car, we were told this on Friday morning. Totally disappointed with car, dealership and Peugeot.

written by markhoult on 12/11/2006

It is the most unreliable car that I have ever owned. I lost £1000 when I traded it in, but it was money well lost. If you buy this car make sure you get a warranty with it, because you will need it!!!

The anti-pollution fault on the Peugeot 807 2.2 HDI GLX kept coming on no matter what was repaired, and it took a Peugeot dealer 3 weeks to respond to my call, after a nudge in the right direction. There were problems with electrics, as lights would come on for no reason, and the indicators would go crazy. I'm never going to buy a Peugeot again.

As with previous reviews. My 807 was recalled by manufacturer 3 times.
Electric wing mirrors stick closed regularly, hand brake cable brakes and the reversing lights and warning bleeper stopped working. Back end pulley on engine has broken and surprisingly the garage fitted a new one straight away as they had a spare on the shelf... so that hasn't happened before?!
