“10 years, still going!”

★★★★★

written by on 20/03/2013

I brought a Samsonite hard shell, combination lock at top, key locks at the side, 4 wheels, retractable pulley suitcase in 2002, as an international flight attendant. I flew for 4 years, and then took a ground job. My case has been everywhere and experienced everything, and is still going. Having read these reviews, I felt compelled to write about my experience, which has been all good. When I did need a repair thanks to the airline damaging it with rough handling, it was no problem in Auckland, New Zealand.

I have samsonite cases dating back 10 years too. All have been through the mill and survived admirably!!

I needed a case in oct 2012 so bought a 55cm starwheeler. The inside zip broke after the 2nd use - the 1st use was 2 days away in europe. Samsonite say they can't fix the zip and will refund me my money.

Don't base your 2013 purchases on the said quality 10 years ago. Things have changed!

I would second this. My father had Samsonite and he had them all his life,..the FIRST set! When I bought my first suitcase, they were also Samsonite. My recent purchase was the most expensive yet and again Samsonite,...2 broke (same issues as many,..ZIPPER broke and a wheel came off). I read somewhere that they are now being manufactured in China or something. Frankly, I can understand that a company like Samsonite tries to reduce costs and finds locations that work for them. But when their suitcase fail after 2 months of purchase, they should be ashamed and offer an immediate replacement instead of forcing you to go to a repair centre, have it assessed etc etc etc. I am writing to Samsonite and will see what I get back, but if it's not positive, that's 2 generations of Samsonite Loyalty they have flushed down the toilet. Like many things in life, a visionary built the brand over decades, and some incompetent management is going to wreck it in no time.
