I had not played Lawn Bowls before a friend suggested I went down to Cobham Bowling Club in Surrey. I did not have any bowling equipment and was told all I needed was a pair of flat shoes. Bowls would be available for me use at the club. I was given free tuition and after a couple of sessions I found it very friendly so I joined. I have not regretted it and now am good enough to play in some friendly matches the club organise. At the beginning I used to go to what is know as "Roll Ups" on Monday afternoons and Thursday evenings where you can join other members in just practising. This club also has the advantage of also having Short Mat bowls inside the clubhouse in the winter all included in the annual subscription. There are also social events throughout the year. I have not regretted my decision to play bowls and would encourage anyone else in the area with the slightest inclination of trying bowls to phone them and they will be happy to give you more details and arrange for you to come down to the club for a session.
