Optima Legal were offered to us as part of the re mortgage package but in hindsight we should have paid to use our own solicitor as Optima have been the slowest, most inefficient and uncaring shower I have had the unpleasant experience of encountering. My partner and I suffered greatly at the hands of Optima. Over three painful months we were subject to the most tardy, shoddy and insensitive conveyancing process. These people have no concept of timelines, deadlines or peoples feelings. Added to that, they were staggeringly inept, losing documents and requesting documents they had already received. Got a buyer for my house with vacant possession back in November 2012 from a first time buyer. Was really chuffed as it seemed like a gift. I asked my solicitor how long the whole thing would take and she said give a couple of months due to Christmas break in between. It took us seven months to buy a house that was not in a chain, had no peculiar characteristics, the funds were constantly available, and we weren't selling. The main cause of the agonizing delay was these clowns, appointed by our lender, the Clydesdale Bank (they should get some share of the blame). Picture the scenario - purchase price agreed early September, our purchasers moved to Optima following recommendation from their mortgage provider. I am buying a flat that is chain free. Agreed to buy this in June. Since begining of October, contacts were signed. Paid deposit around four days ago, and still no word on when exchange of contracts will be, never mind completion. I have had to use these solicitors as it was part of the package with my re-mortgage with Lloyds TSB. I can confirm other users comments that they have terrible customer services - at no point will you ever speak to someone who is actually working on your case. In addition they do not chase up on any task they are supposed to be carrying out - they only communicate with the banks etc. by fax (!) and do not chase up on anything ever. Poor service, uniformed staff, total lack of applicable knoweledge for front line staff, no designated case officers, unable to offer credible responses as everything has to be referred. We have had to use Optima Legal as our mortgage provider stipulated that they work in conjunction with my own conveyancing lawyer. To say the road to exchange has been stressful is an understatement due to the ineptitude and prevarications of Optima legal. We still haven't exchanged after three and a half months (neither buyer or seller are in a chain) and are getting to the end of our tether. My experiences pretty much mirrors all the other reviewers. I'm a first time buyer with the Yorkshire Building Society so had to go with Optima Legal to get the first time buyer mortgage deal. It's been a disaster and coming up to 5 months in still no date has been set for exchange (there is no chain both the vendor and myself would have completed on the first day if we could). Optima have been very slow to progress my case which has caused several weeks delay so far. They are useless at communicating, ignore emails and do not phone back when they have promised to do so. I am in the same position as you....our buyers are obtaining a mortgage through HSBC and we are nearing a 6 month wait as Optima continually delay the process. I have a field included in my sale with over 50 pathetic queries on that alone. We are always being told 'next week'. The person we are buying from will lose her house today as the vendors are not prepared to wait any longer for this to drag on. We, too, may lose her house if she decides to stay put after what has turned into a hell.Both she and ourselves are relocating and all self employed so had cleared workshops and stopped recieving work months ago in anticipation....so we're all broke and living off savings. Everyone has been living from boxes for a couple of months as we looked like completing......how misled. Avoid Otima at all costs.

I currently have a re-mortgage via northern rock and included was the change in deed FOC via OPTIMUM 6 weeks ago they asked my current lender for a settlement letter, last week optimum called to say they never recieved the letter and my current lender wanted another 25.00 GBP for yet another settlement letter. After telling optimum how annoyed it had taken 6 weeks for them to chase the letter i agreed to another 25.00 gbp on thursday 13/09. i call optimum today 17/09 to check if the lender... (read more)

I'm still in the process of dealing with these clowns so am not going to go into a huge amount of detail but will provide a full and frank breakdown of all of their failings once our sale / purchase is completed (or not, I'm at the point of telling everyone I've had quite enough thank you and I'll just stop where I am). I have had to use Optima Legal as my mortgage lender would not deal with my solicitor directly. Not only do you have to pay them a fee to deal with your conveyancing you also have to put up with their total incompetence. They claim they have not received legal papers sent by my Solicitor, they claim that the mortgage papers they evaluate are alright and we can exchange only to hear a few days later, by my broker, (whom I asked to call Optima to see if all was okay) that they still have... Basically, Optima Legal is not much more than a call centre with qualified legal people in the background, and not in direct contact with clients. One usually speaks to different person each time a call is made. This company's conveyancing services were offered to a family member by a building society/bank when a new mortgage was approved. I have just had experience of Optima Legal in a remortgage, supposedly the simplest of conveyancing transactions.
With all their errors (like not pulling all the required documents from Land Registry, and sending external faxes to other fax numbers in theier own building) and delays (like taking 7 days to get a reply to a question because they didn't bother to follw up to see if their fax was ever received) the whole process took close on 12 weeks, which is appalling by any standards in the UK.
When we finally did get to completion, they couldn't be bothered to let me know, and their completion process is "we do it as soon as we can", but they do NOT contact the client regarding teh completion date, which is the most important part of customer service one would have thought?
In terms of customer service, they were incompetent and constantly contradicting themselves. Wouldn't pay this lot in washers.
