Hired Fidler to sell my house, after using them for the purchase 12 years ago. A lot has changed. In 2011 the service was cheap but reasonable for the price. My experience in 2024 was horrendous. Unnecessary delays, poor communication, 40% increase in my fee compared to the estimate, and overall a complete lack of any client service philosophy - this culminated with a response from the 'CEO' about my complaint that he “does not deal with complaints”. Would have happily paid twice the fee for a competent firm with better, quicker service. Will never use Fidler again and strongly discourage anyone attracted by a low fee quote.

“Absolutely avoid these charlatans”

My experience with Fiddler and Pepper Solicitors, handling my grandfather's legal matters, was notably unsatisfactory. In our attempt to retrieve his Power of Attorney documents, we were met with a rigid and unyielding attitude. Despite presenting undeniable evidence of my grandfather's mental capacity, their response was cold and lacking in compassion. This experience has left our family distressed and disheartened. For those dealing with sensitive and personal legal issues, I recommend proceeding with caution with this firm. Their approach in our case was devoid of the understanding and flexibility that is crucial in handling delicate family affairs.

“Just use someone else ”

I find it necessary to express my profound disappointment and concern regarding my recent dealings with Fidler & Pepper Lawyers. The consistent delays in response to my inquiries have been nothing short of frustrating. The unacceptably late communication reflects a lack of respect for clients' time and urgency. It is essential for a legal firm to prioritize timely and efficient communication to foster trust and ensure clients are adequately informed. Furthermore, the repeated procedural errors I experienced cast serious doubts on the competence and attention to detail of my case handlers. These errors have not only wasted valuable time but have also jeopardized the outcome of my case. It is disheartening to witness such a disregard for the basic tenets of professionalism and accuracy within a legal context. Equally distressing is the subpar level of communication from the firm. Important updates were either not relayed to me in a timely manner or were inadequately explained. This lack of transparency has left me questioning the firm's commitment to keeping clients informed and engaged in their matters. In addition, the receptionists' obstructive behaviour, which I encountered far too often, was deeply frustrating. Their filibustering tactics and evasive responses only exacerbated my frustration and hindered the progress of my case. Such behaviour reflects poorly on the firm's commitment to client service and professionalism. In conclusion, my experience with Fidler & Pepper Lawyers has been far from satisfactory. The issues I have outlined - delayed responses, procedural blunders, inadequate communication, and obstructive receptionists - have collectively painted a deeply concerning picture of the firm's operations.

“Terrible, Terrible, Terrible!”

A few words can describe the service that we experienced with Fidler and Pepper which was unprofessional, pathetic and frustrating! The day before we were due to move, we had to call and e-mail a number of times as they would not respond and it was becoming nervous for us whether we were going to move or not. Instead of apologising, they charged us £150 for excessive calls and e-mails. The worst firm I have experienced and I would not encourage anyone to use them!!!!

“Absolutely awful ”

I am using Fidler and pepper as my solicitors for buying my first house. At the start of using the company they seemed quite promising, quick emails, being quite helpful etc. A few weeks later I cannot get in contact with them easily, they’re sending me exactly the same update text word for word every week (for 2 months now I have the 2 same texts sent a few minutes apart- 1) we have received responses to our enquiries 2) we are still awaiting satisfactory responses). I’m now thinking this is an automated message as it’s exactly the same word for word, and the second text comes in very soon after the first- so unless they checked the enquiries in 2 minutes flat, I doubt it’s legitimate. I found the only way to talk to the individual leading my case, is threatening to pull out- and even that is more complicated than needed. I’m in contact with the seller so I know for a fact that her estate agent and solicitor have struggled to get in contact with mine. I’m getting more in detailed information about the progress of the sale from texting the seller, than my own solicitors. So what am I even paying for? The process has been made extremely stressful, I have not found Fidler and pepper helpful whatsoever.

“Terrible ”

I’m not a client of this firm and I’m so glad I’m not. I’m in a small chain with this firm at the bottom. They do not speak to anyone, not the estate agent or their own buyers. They are holding everything up and because of their blasé attitude we have been told the developers are now going to re market our house. Rude personnel also. If you want a smooth conveyance,the personal touch and a stress free experience I wouldn’t advise using this firm. Their business model leaves much to be desired; awful, in fact. Even our estate agents are saying they would advise any of their customers thinking of using them to stay well clear.

I wish i had checked these reviews before i appointed them Completely agree. Foolishly took a recommendation to use Fidler and Pepper. Staff are revoltingly rude, communication is poor, and when they finally do any work it's mediocre.

I would highly recommend steering clear of Fidler and Pepper.

“Terrible service”

Fidler and Pepper are a terrible company. They do not answer my queries and very difficult to get things done. They said draught contracts have been sent to people buying my house 8 days ago. I have been informed this has not happened. I would not use this service again.

“3 Years of Forms being Sent Back and still they keep...”

We used Fidler & Pepper to purchase our house nearly 3 years ago the experience then was not good, very slow at getting answers and dealing with queries. They were so bad at answering that i searched companies house to find out the directors and emailed they all asking if anyone was there. So nearly 3 years on as they was a change to the title plan they still cannot sort this out a simple piece of paper. This has been signed and dated several times and every time they come back to me a couple of months later saying they have not received this and it must be lost in the post. The pure incompetence of this company astounds me and I wish I never come across this company and would recommend these to anyone.

“The worse solicitors I have ever used ”

The worse solicitors I have ever used for a house purchase. I never once got through to them phone, and reception will not take a message, you are told to email - then you get an email back saying we will be back to in 48hrs!! The communication from them is sub standard and the system they use is not user friendly. We had to drive the process through our buyers solicitors as F&P where so hard to get hold of and when you did get an email there was no sense of urgency or responsibility for the process. We were not paid our balance on completion day and had to chase to get the payment the next day! As someone else pointed out the junior staff have an attitude problem, and you will not get through to the senior team. Avoid using this company, poor service, unprofessional and the worst communication I have ever come across.

“**Unexpected costs and unacceptable lengthy delays”

This company sets new lows for incompetence. They have managed to draw out a simple probate for over two years. They do not return phone calls nor do they reply to emails. They have not distributed funds to beneficiaries for over three weeks now and we can't find out why because they do not communicate. This review will be updated next week if they have the decency to get in touch.

If you want a hastle free pleasent experiance please stay away from this firm. The staff are rude and have a cant be bothered atitude. As for returning your calls then forget it, you will have better luck knitting fog. Pleas take note of these reviews it will save you time and money. You havr been warned

Not helpful at all,won't answer phone,rude,obstructive seems to think they can ignore your needs can't meet signing dates and laughs when you are given a negative reply.I wouldn't recommend them to buy a newspaper never mind sort out legal papers. Then at the end of all this unsatisfactory service you get a great big bill. They deserve one star actually it should be minus.

We sold our house and our purchaser used this firm. They held up the whole chain and the process ended up taking months and months. They even failed to meet the fixed completion date because of forgetting to send a document to the mortgage company. Didn’t answer calls from our solicitor or estate agent. Avoid at all costs.

“No rush, poor service”

If you're selling a house and use this company you need to have the patience of a saint. I was constantly having to chase for information when I finally managed to speak to the person dealing with the case they would forward me enquires from the buyers solicitors that had been stamped as received by them 2 weeks ago! Following exchanging of contracts they then sent a billfor their fees with an additional £95 on which when I queried they said that was standard. I didn't mind paying it but was never made aware of this during the sale and only after the sale had exchanged contracts did i receive a letter about the additional fee. This company will do what they need to and add addition costs to the bill and will only action requests if you are ringing / emailing for updates otherwise your paper work is left at the bottom of the pile. Happy to discuss if you can shed some light into the additional fees that remain a secret until after contracts have exchanged. Trust worthy companies should promote transparency, which this one does not.

Abysmal.our solicitors & estate agents & even the buyers themselves struggling to get effective communication with this company resulting in a simple two property swap dragging on for weeks & weeks.This could have been wrapped up at end of May but still no end in sight due to F & P failing to answer calls , sending incorrect paperwork & then failing when informed of this to act to provide correct paperwork.Will never use or recommend to others & will avoid any dealings with people using this company in future.Can only assume any positive ratings to be fake.

6 months to sell an empty property with no chain didn't even have correct e mail address for buyers solicitors case worker say they will get back to you but never do you have to chase them buyers have dropped out due to total mis management of this case 6 months down the drain i had a heart attack recently and feel sick with worry something should be done about this company treating customers so badly please do not use and tell your friends

Absolutely shocking! Who gave 5 stars? No communication at all and has never once called back! We only know we might move thanks to the other solicitors involved. Please don’t use and not even cheaper than other firms! Came recommended by purple brick and complained to them and hopefully won’t recommend! Shocking!

“Disgraceful”

I have recently managed to sell my fathers one bedroom flat that was sold and handed to you in November after months of complete annoyance with your company and having to ring all solicitors involved and ground owners and finally spoke to the buyer myself to reassure her that you were doing something which you did not . I had to ring constantly and love the response not at her desk and she going on maternity leave and oh she’s on annual holiday all listed on my live tracker. The people who handled my case were completely in kind and didn’t care about the very nature that I was trying to sell my late fathers flat to move on after his death in June 2017. As you will see this flat is not worth a fortune and will divided between my siblings but the complete disrespect of everyone I spoke to is a disgrace . Even ending in tears to maddy who said call any time and who was always not at her desk or willing to speak so many times I called just putting you through then line goes dead ring back to have same thing happen. I have to say that it’s hard enough living so far away in Newcastle and trusting that your employers would be kind was a complete joke. The passing of a parent is so difficult and the after part dealing with companies like yourselves should be respectful and decent. I can honestly say I have never written a negative review in my life . This has hurt and scarred me more than you can imagine . I expect a reply as son as possible not like the replies I received when dealing with the sale of my dad’s home. I have sought legal advice and also spoken to tabloids and my neighbour who is a journalist for the times. Sent from my iPhone

“Absolute disgrace”

The sale of our property fell through on Saturday 17th February because of the incompetence of the staff handling our sale. Due to this I contacted the seller to ask of his reasons and was appalled at his reasoning. He states that they had raised questions regarding the fittings and fixtures form with Fidler & Pepper on the 5th Feb and they were still waiting for a response on the 17th so decided to call off their purchase. This came as a huge shock to myself and my husband as we had no idea an enquiry had been made even though they had been chased already by the buyers solicitor, but hadn't thought to check we had even received it, as 2 weeks passed. I logged onto the case tracker (which i previously hadn't used as hadn't had the need) and found they had sent the email with regards to this matter to a totally incorrect email address even though they had email correspondence with both myself and my husband before hand. I cannot view the attachment on the tracker just the covering email meaning I am able to see the email it has been sent to. I had already queried their competency when I had replied to an enquiry they had managed to send to the correct email account but then they didn't forward this onto the buyers solicitors until 9 days later. I myself never got a response to this email either. I find this service absolutely diabolical, the fact that a solicitor has caused the failed sale of a property due to incompetency and carelessness and would like somebody to be help accountable. Luckily we have managed to resell really quickly but at a reduced price meaning we have lost £5ooo, which could have easily been avoided if the staff in question had just done their job properly. It wasn't even a complicated sale, they were cash buyers with no chain.
