“incompetent”

I don't know who recommended then to our family to deal with the probate of our Mother & Father estate, DO NOT USE CHORUS LAW OR ITC or whatever they call themselves now that the co-op has taken over The most incompetent company l have had the misfortune to do business with. The ability to complete simply tasks, ie update records with new contact details yet still use the old records 5 months later, resulting in correspondence &cheques going to old address. l only found out that this had happened after a conversation with my sister some 4 months after the event Sept 2018.It took sometime to actually make contact. The same thing happened in December 2018, old details used again. Then in Jan 2019 to received a email stating additional funds were due from Sept 2018 and would be sent through, l was unable to make contact with originator of the email from Choruslaw, three emails and a phone call, but to no avail. Finally dealt with a member who said the cheque had already gone in Sept 2018 but I am unable to get answers to this email.

Friend died, Widow went to the bank-Barclay's. They told him they had a bereavement service. Signed up and it was Corus Law. They act on your behalf in matters of banking, probate, household account services. They are not lawyers. Over twelve months later and relieved of £6,000 the widow was finally shut of them.
They sent an estate agent to photograph the house. She had no intention of selling up.
They put an advert in the local paper informing anyone with debt interest to contact them. I suspected they went further and I was correct. They put a notice in the London Gazette.
They made an issue of a small piece of land-an old footpath at the side of the house which the council had sold to them and was incorporated in the Land Registry.
Totally unnecessary and incompetent.

“Worst service ever”

Would highly recommend everyone to avoid this company. They are a joke. Now after all this time I am getting emails chasing for payments to other organizations that they should have paid. Good luck for the Co Op that has now taken over. Back to basic training for everyone.

“Incompetent and slow - use a local solcitor instead”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Jovany111 on 19/07/2018

Was referred to Chorus Law and they stressed they had huge competence in trusts, dealing with gifts from natural income, foreign shares and house sales. In reality they have minimum expertise. Despite having a good case manager who coordinated stuff the so called experts were poor - forms were missed, property transfer took 16months after buyer and price agreed ( buyer's solicitor at point of referring CL legal team to trade body for incompetence), I ended up having to deal with a lot of the foreign shares as nobody seemed to have a clue at CL. Also I had to point out the IHT paid to HMRC must be wrong as nearly 100k more than I would have thought and more than CL had told me it would be - their answer was sorry they had filled forms in wrong! and a further 3 month delay. Various documents like dividend payments lost by CL as well. Nearly 3 years and estate still not sorted. Use a local solicitor who will proactively deal with your estate rather than this company. Why HSBC and Barclays referred all their customers here I do not understand.

“Avoid them!”

written by palkoviki on 28/06/2018

My aunt passed away 20 months ago and we still have not got any responses from Chorus Law. Whenever we try to contact our probate manager, the only answer is: "we currently await on a property sale." For 20 months?? They treat us with disrespect and contemptuous manners. We definitely do not recommend them to anyone.

“Excellent service; very good communication. Chorus Law...”

★★★★★

written by on 26/06/2018

Chorus Law managed the process of probate for my mother’s estate. Throughout the process, staff (especially our case manager JLO) were careful to explain the process and to communicate regularly about progress. Any queries were answered very promptly - usually within the hour - and everything was explained very clearly. The website was also extremely useful as a record of letters, emails and phone calls, and to check when things were returned. Inland Revenue and Court of Probate aspects were managed efficiently and knowledgeably. We have been very impressed with the way this process has been managed throughout. All staff have been clear, courteous and helpful and it has been a relief not to have to struggle through the process without professional support. Thank you, Chorus Law. We certainly recommend your services.

Chorus have recently handled the very complicated matter of my late mother’s estate. At such a very upsetting time their service has been exemplary! They have taken the stress and worry away and allowed my family time to grieve while they have very diligently sorted all the complicated stuff out! Our case manager has been very sensitive and caring during all contact and I can not recommend this company enough! If you need professional help from a wonderful group of lovely people these guys are worth every penny!

“Probate: Expensive, bad service and not easy to get...”

written by on 10/05/2018

Decided to go with Simplify as came recommended by Bereavement Office at hospital and by Bank. Initial email resulted in a form attached which had to be signed and returned (by email) saying that I had read the terms and conditions and the booklet! Signed it after querying it and 10 days later had the home visit from the 'salesman' and re-signed the documents. A couple of days later I had to ring their office. The set up is akin to an insurance call centre - they have a little knowledge but are unable to advise. I was told that the case manager would ring me back within 24 hrs!!! Hang on, I am paying you £4,500 so I call the shots, not you. About 4 hrs later I got a call back but missed it so I decided to exercise my right to cancel within 14 days. I looked back at th documentation to find that the 'salesman' had pre-dated the forms by 10 days to the date he sent his first email so I was, in effect, outside the 14 days period! Got it sorted with the case manager's superior who promised return of the original documents to m by Friday 4th May. Rang today (10th May) to see where they were to be told that, "Yes Sir, the letter has been drafted awaiting checking". Now awaiting a call back from them as a matter of some urgency. BOTTOM LINE IS - DO AS MUCH AS YOU CAN YOURSELF AND SEEK ADVICE ONLY IF REQUIRED

“Professional and considerate service at an important time”

★★★★★

written by on 12/04/2018

The service provided by my case manager SW and her colleagues was excellent throughout the probate process. My case manager was professional, kind, considerate and knowledgeable and helped ensure a good experience. Progress updates were always provided on time and all questions were answered to my satisfaction. I had confidence in the knowledge and experience of the staff, particularly as this area is new and unknown to me. At what was a difficult time of bereavement and trying to sort out a whole host of things, the probate process at least was made much easier by SW and the rest of the staff at Chorus Law. I would be happy to recommend them to friends or colleagues. Thanks for all their help - I really appreciate it.

I think the work carried out was done well and made everything for us much more easy. I would say the videos and training sessions on the website did not seem to work - I would have liked to have found out more information about what was going on. Also the list of phone calls, letters and emails kind of left me guessing about what was happening and a bit more information would have been good, especially if there were any queries that I may have been able to help with directly.

Absolutely fantastic service, took care of everything and kept me up to date with what was going on from their end. Any questions or queries were quickly answered by case worker and easily broken down. Everything was dealt with in a respectful and professional manner and I literally cannot fault them on anything. Just want to thank my case worker JLO for all his help and guidance through what can be a very stressful and emotional time.

“saves the heartache”

★★★★★

written by Romanx16 on 28/03/2018

I'm writing this on behalf of myself and my siblings. When our father passed away the banks instructed us go to probate so that his estate could be closed. The banks put us in touch with Chorus Law. A representative was sent round to my house where we discussed the process that was needed for the estate to go through probate. We was put at ease as to how the probate worked, we then instructed Chorus Law to act as our legal representatives. We had not realised what this process involved, for the fee that was charged to us we did no leg work, which saves the heartache for us. We was assigned a case manager (AA)and at every step of the way I was kept informed either by phone or email as to how the process was working, if i needed to contact Chorus Law with any problem, my case mannager was there to help, duly if he was away from his desk, another case manager knew what was happening by the case files, so they could help with any problem. I or my brothers and sister have never used a probate service before, and we are very pleased with the service from Chorus Law, and would recommend their serices, as I'm sure if we should ever need a probate service again, Chorus Law would be on top of the list.

“A VERY GOOD PROBATE SERVICE”

★★★★☆

written by on 23/03/2018

Dealing with my father's estate proved to a bit hurdle-ridden with his bank having mislaid his will in archive and my aged and failing mother, named as executrix, being both unwilling and unable to perform that role. My Chorus Law Case Officer, SW, was at all times both patient and helpful in resolving these problems and I would have no hesitation in recommending her or seeking her help in future. My only concern is the time it takes for the process to be completed. The law works slowly.

Chorus Law are dreadful and seem to prefer to drag their feet. They act as a middle man. I took legal advice as to whether I had a case to take them to court re the sale of my mother's house which, after being put on the market with immediate offers, was still waiting to complete one year later, but was told that probate is along winded process and that some companies will take longer than others. Chorus Law unfortunately seem to fall in the longer than most category!

When it was agreed for chorus law to manage my late fathers estate, I was told it would be finalized between 9 to 12 months. I've been told your waiting on DWP but they have a back log. So why are you not chasing this matter up? You are getting paid for a service that your not providing, just dragging things on.

NO!! Chorus Law are totally unregulated and do as they please with absolutely nobody to stop them from ripping you off. They are not solicitors - they simply employ a solicitor to do the legal work but charge you extra for doing so.

Hi Bombelagh - thank you for your question. The time taken to finalise a case often depends on the complexity of the case. If you would like me to look into a specific case for you, please send me your details (case number and name), I will be happy to do so. Contact details can be found on the Chorus Law Review Centre page. Thank you.

They have no reason to rush because they earn interest on your money. Get a solicitor. They are not as expensive as you think if you shop around. The solicitor will not charge you till everything is completed and by then your money will be released. Make no mistake Chorus law/itc whatever they call themselves will just fob you off. They prey on the bereaved and charge thousands for a job that should cost a few hundred at most. Good luck.I know what you are going through.

As has been said they are earning interest on your money so the longer it takes the more they earn. Also Chorus Law have no legal expertise they sub contract all the work to sister companies and charge you more. The case managers are no more than call centre operatives who are trained to fob you off. As has been said get a solicitor will be cheaper and finaly good luck I know what you are going through.

Chorus Law use every trick possible to take the last few quid out of your pocket. Taking so long to close a case after probate has been granted is just one of those tricks. They will blame their solicitors, the Land Registry, YOUR OWN FAMILY MEMBERS and everyone they can think of to get as much interest from your money as they can.
