I have had this Laptop for just under 3 weeks as a temporary measure as my other laptop is being repaired. I admit once it gets going the laptop is quite good but the problem with it is getting going becuase it just takes so long to load up. Another problem is that the wireless card now dosn't work after formatting and this means that I cannot access the internet. I would reccomend this laptop if you were willing to spend more money updating the memory and hard drive but apart from this I have found that it is quite a good laptop.

this Toshiba Satellite A30-203 laptop has a beautiful screen. it is very easy to use. make sure to buy an extra battery though because the battery life of this laptop does not last long at all. other than that it has great picture quality. as long as you have a good security system on this laptop you should have no problems. the laptop is very lightweight and ideal for carrying around....well, as long as you have an extra battery. other than that its good to keep at home. much better than a regular pc.

My Toshiba Satellite A30-203 lasted many years, still use it today just for music and internet. been through hell and back, dropped it a couple times and keeps on ticking. Just clean the thing, makes sure dust and such doesn't bog it down and make it heat up, and it'll work fine, was a pretty good laptop for it's time. Replaced the hard drive 2 times, the first time it was my fault [overheated because I put it on a blanket...i know] , second time I'm not sure what happened.
touch pad died about a year ago.

The Toshiba Satellite A30-203 is a good machine. It was expensive when purchased and has served me well for over 5 years. You do have to prop it up to leave space underneath for cooling and if it starts overheating too much you just blow an external fan on it. Need to try vacuuming out the fans as I am sure there is dust there.

I bought this laptop in Moscow, I have dragged it all over the former soviet union, it been to most of Western Europe and now lives in Australia as the spare laptop at home, apart from a little maintenance, like cleaning the fans it is the best laptop I have ever had, I also have a Dell now newer and more powerful but it will never change my views on my Tosh satellite SA 30 -203, it has also been used in temperatures below - 30C and never missed a beat! Strongly recommended requires respect and it will respect the user, keep clean.

I was bought this laptop by my father in 2003 I think it was £850 pretty average for a decent laptop then, it was to replace a packard bell I was bought a week earlier (I was young and stupid) the packard bell actually blew up sparks and everything, this was the replacement and I was pleased enough until three weeks later when it began overheating and shutting off when running the simplest of programs, I bought fan assisters I propped it up on books I got a pro to clean the heat sink and all of this was to no avail. I tried my best to like this computer but in the end when you are wordprossesing work and it turns itself off with that memorable sound of death it becomes annoying, wouldnt recommend. Surprisingly I bought toshiba again p200-1ee and there have been no faults at all. I love the new one but would like to forget the A30.

Well recommend the Toshiba Satellite A30-203 is a very robust machine. High quality of graphics. Ergonomic.
Never troubleshooting. Very good fan.

I added a 3.06GHZ Hyper Threading CPU and 1GB of RAM to it plus a wifi card and the thing is brilliant. It still outperforms many of todays machines as far as I am concerned. Recommended.
A great looking machine with great performance and even better potential. Well recommend the Toshiba Satellite A30-203.

Well constructed, overall I well recommend this Toshiba Satellite Laptop. Infact the only bad thing I can say about this laptop is when it freezes up, it takes a while to unfreeze. But apart from that, go for this model - A30-203.

I was given this laptop by my boss to work from home. Still cannot add it to my Wireless Home Network (2 laptops & a PC!). Definitely not a business machine!
The heating up problem has been partially resolved as I bought a cheap laptop fan from eBay!
It might've been OK in 2003, but it is definitely a NO-NO for 2008.

I've had an A30-203 for the best of four years now it's never been a problem, I have a regular maintenance program every week, it just runs like a dream, I cannot understand anyone moaning about it.
Like most things in today's world you've got to look after them, a computer is like your car; it needs attention on a regular basis. Don't keep bunging it up with rubbish downloads and then telling everybody it's no bloody good, when it's your own fault.

I formatted and reinstalled windows xp and the software that I wanted runs like an absolute dream now. - After reinstalling software properly (not from the recovery disks supplied) It has improved performance dramatically especially after putting the memory up to 512mb. Never had a problem with it. As for overheating problems mentioned by other users as long as the laptop is left with clear space underneath it's fine. Would have been better if the air vents were on top though, because a lot of users tend to have it on a cushion or something similar on their lap. I am a PC technician and I find this laptop up there with the best of them for reliability. Apart from no DVD RW, lack of memory and poor software.

Everyone's problems with these laptops over heating is easy to solve...
Just use the nozzle on your vacuum cleaner and give the fans a good clean out. You can go one step further and take your laptop apart, but I've found a good blast with the hoover every 2 - 3 months has sorted my problem out with it overheating. Another good idea mentioned by a few people is to make sure that the cooling fans are not blocked when using the Toshiba Satellite Pro A30-204 laptop.
I hope this helps if anyone else is having over heating problems.

I've had the Toshiba Satellite A30-203 laptop for about 2 and a half years, and it has broken down at least 6 times, and at the moment it is broken. I have paid almost half the price of the actual laptop on repairs. OVER HEATING, POOR GRAPHICS AND OVER PRICED FOR ITS POOR QUALITY OF EVERYTHING.
1. May 2005, not booting into Windows, reinstalled
2. June 2005, not booting into Windows, replaced drive to Toshiba
3. September 2005, not booting into Windows, reinstalled
4. March 2006, not booting into Windows, returned and replaced drive
5. May 2006, not booting into Windows, returned to Teleplan
6. September 2006 not booting into Windows (not fixed yet)
I have read the reviews and I am not surprised at what they say. I am at my GCSE's and I have lost enough coursework for two people.

This is an excellent laptop with easy to locate upgrade panels underneath and wi-fi, there has been some talk of overheating problems on it, i think like any laptop it needs room to cool ,so placing it on a surface that will constrict the vents underneath will cause problems, they all need airflow underneath so i always place it on an hard surface and i have no problems!

Many problems since the Toshiba Satellite A30-203 was bought, I have another laptop which only cost about half the amount this one did, not as good a spec but a far superior machine

I have bought a small ergonomic extra ven, for cooling.
But when you use this Toshiba Satellite A30-203 properly, it will live very long! I am still glad I bought it!

I have had my A30 for over 2 years, and am glad i purchased the system guard warrenty.
Mother board , wireless, 2 DVD drives, Hard drive replaced and it still is causeing me heart ache. Screen goes white when the moved, so you have to restart.

Since I've had my Toshiba Satellite A30-203 laptop I have had no fewer that six problems; ranging from faulty recovery CD's to the keyboard falling apart (£60)! It overheats, and the Intel graphics card is pathetic, and has been known to increase the chance of overheating, but apparently this can be fixed by using a hoover, but I have yet to try it.
I am also experiencing weird problems on shutdown, when the screen brings up loads of random images when its supposed to be turned off., I think that this is due to the poor graphics card.
