The Toshiba Regza 42UL863B Full HD 42” LED TV offers a multitude of features and would grace the wall or television stand of any living room with style. The television as expected is backlit - which adds to the contrast and definition of the images displayed leading to superior picture quality. Interestingly the television scores only average points on many review sites such as CNet - mainly, it has to be noted, for the built in Wi-Fi.
For many people this is less of a concern for a television set anyway so let’s look at some of the many positives. The screen is a massive 42” and can be freestanding on the supplied stand or wall mounted - although it is worth noting that most of the cabling sits on the back which will cause it to stand proud off a wall. There are two USB ports on the rear, which is a useful addition.
The picture clarity is excellent, it is high definition featuring Toshiba’s Resolution + 1080p technology which crisps up images nicely. Audio quality is excellent and the screen features both built in Freeview High Def as well as the satellite tuners - feel free to take your pick! Another natty feature of the Toshiba Regza 42UL863B Full HD 42” LED TV is the built in facial recognition software. This senses when people are watching the television - and if no one is sensed it dims the backlight to conserve power. It can be taught to recognise different faces and set the contrast levels to suit the person however there have been some rumblings on the AV forums that it is too hard to get to grips with and most turn the feature off.
From a set up point of view this is an excellent television to work with, from box to viewing doesn’t take long, setting up the remote control is straightforward and Toshiba’s chosen menu systems are easy to navigate and understand.
