I have a friend who is a retired builder who just loves IKEA kitchens. He has renovated numerous houses and always he's fitted IKEA kitchens. I have just had a large utility and kitchen done with the plain grey units, planned, sorted, collected ( not ordered and delivered , ) and fitted by him all I did was choose the doors and handles. It is a work of art. So solid, sturdy and just beautiful. I've had 2m x 1.5 m island with granite and a run of 2m with the sink in. Having watched it being fitted this is not a job for a rank ameteur or someone with little patience. He built the plinths for the cupboards as a wooden frame , this has more strength than the legs that are usually used. Legs are OK for the ordinary work tops but not for granite. I supplied my own dishwasher and fridge,IKEA say that the doors don't fit anything other than their white goods. They do but with some very clever working out from our builder. The dishwasher door was cut at the bottom and the bottom piece fixed the remaining door went on with a mitred cut , perfect and fits like a glove. So I am now a convert, my £600 units and £1800.00 granite could be a £8000.00 kitchen. One friend who's just had a £10,000.00 kitchen didn't have granite as he didn't want the extra cost is weeping as the granite can be affordable with the IKEA kitchen. But not for the faint hearted.

i wonder if you live in the london area and if you would be willing to share the name of your IKEA kitchen installer? I like their kitchens but I don't know anyone who would install.

Hello there, how did your builder fix the bottom of the dishwasher once he cut it?
