I'm in the fortunate position of it having been some time since I used a job agency. Went into my local branch of Reed as remembered they were once good. Not any more. The disinterested man behind a desk said he couldn't talk to me unless I'd registered online. The two other women in the office were chatting about last nights britains got voice factor- or whatever...
So, deciding this must be how it's done now, I went home and registered online. I am now getting jobs through requiring fluent German. My CV does not say I speak German. Admittedly it doesn't say I don't speak German, but still....
I can only assume there is some computer programme randomly sending emails to people with no (competent) human interaction at all. Which brings me back to the start....what are the town centre offices actually for? Why are some decent companies trusting their recruitment to a firm that's not even interested in getting to know the candidates that make an effort to register with them? This business used to be about people skills. Now as far as I can tell it's complacent because so many people are looking for work that maybe they feel they don't have to try anymore. It's a depressing change for the worse.

I agree I also use to think Reed was decent back in 2009 I got a job with them and they were great. Lately I have also found myself having to get in contact with recruitment agencies and I went to Reed as one of my first choices thinking they were good last time, but I was so wrong. Got the same warm reception as the review writer above. To be honest -do not bother with reed! As someone else said try and find the position elsewhere and go with another agency. There are some good ones out there (although hard to come by nowadays)
